"Where's my son?" Derek asked.
"The maids have him," I said.
"Which ones?"
"My favorite ones."
Derek knew all about my favoritism when it came to his household staff. There were certain maids I liked. He rotated through a lot of them before I asked him to stop. There was no need for us to have different people cleaning the mansion every other week. That's how some of my things ended up missing. I couldn't care less, but it pissed me off each time I went to look for something and couldn't find it.
"There you are, Mr. D'Aquilla." Julie joined us at the front door. "Nancy, London, and I are going to take Théo out to see the city. Is that alright with you and the missus?"
"I think it's fine." I shrugged.
"Promise you'll bring him back in one piece?" Derek asked. "If my wife trusts you enough to take him, then I don't have a problem with it."
"We promise to take good care of your son, Mr. D'Aquilla," she said. "As per usual, we'll be accompanied by your security team."
"Excellent! We'll see you in the afternoon?"
"Yes, sir."
Well, that's one less thing to worry about. Now all I have to do is unpack everything from our trip and get Theo's room situated. I had instructed Maddie and Jared to find everything Théo would need for his room upon our return. They sent me photos of the finished product, but I knew I was going to change a few things around. I'm like that. Besides, I didn't have to be at the firm for another week. Jacobi practically forced me to promise I wouldn't come back to work until I was fully rested. I wish Derek's boss was just as considerate.
"What are your plans for today?" Derek asked.
"Uh, I'm going to help around the house," I said. "Maybe go out and have some alone time."
"Good. Stop by the hospital for lunch."
"Or you could come home."
"And miss another opportunity to remind everyone who I'm married to?" He chuckled. "I'll order something before you come. Also, get some sleep."
"I slept well last night."
"Babe, I know I was rough on you last night. We slept in separate rooms. I apologize for my reaction, but you hurt my feelings. I...I thought you trusted me now."
"I do trust you, but I don't trust Kyrah."
"Kyrah doesn't work there anymore."
"She doesn't?"
"No. I heard she was transferred to another hospital not too long after we left." I smiled in relief. "Besides, it's not like I'm interested in her anymore. I have you and I only want you. Remember that."
"Oh, I will." I hugged him. "How about we invite the Davidsons over again? I think we should get to know them more. It's not everyday we get to bond with our new neighbors."
Derek paused in thought for a moment. Even if he doesn't agree, I was going to invite them over anyway. They're an odd family and I'm desperate to know more about them. If they can shed some light on a few of my suspicions, then I'll be able to live peacefully. This world is crazy. Anything can happen.
"I don't see why that's a problem," Derek said. "I'll try to get off early tonight. Maybe we can have Jasper whip up a few snacks."
"That shouldn't be a problem," I said. "Go to work now. I can't have you late. I'm sure they have you booked for a few surgeries."
