Chapter 14: Garden Surprise

The same bird bathe with the same crows seems to be staring at me as I walk towards them. The smell of the purple bellflowers and the white lillies welcome me into the familiar environment. Everything here is so welcoming, even the nature of the Koopa Kingdom seems to think I'm more fit here than the Mushroom Kingdom. "Hasn't changed too much huh?" Bowsers said with a soft chuckle.

"I'd hope not, I was only here just a day ago, it's still just as pretty as I remember."

"Well, there are two more areas of the garden you haven't seen yet. Of course you've seen the entrance and were enchanted by the pond further down the path but wait till you see the remaining sections !" His smile seems to cause him to glow. He seems so excited to see my reaction to the rest of his garden it makes my heart all warm. Damnit stop it Luigi, stop it's not allowed.

"Well, how about I close my eyes and you guide me the rest of the way so I can be completely surprised." I say before covering my eyes and holding out a hand. I wait only a couple of seconds before I am hoisted off the ground and into Bowsers warm, soft, comfortable arms. His left hand on the back of my neck supporting it and the other hand on the back side of my thighs. I let out a little yelp out of surprise.

"Keep your eyes closed then" he chuckles before starting to walk forward.

"Gods I wasn't expecting you to just up and go pick me up like that." Not that I'm complaining, I love being picked up but he doesn't have to know that.

"It's been a lot of walking for you, you deserve a nice rest right here by my heart." I blush a little, gods does he know he's being cute or am I just... never mind. I listen to the area around as he continues to walk along the path. I notice us pass the pond and then I hear a slight creak of a gate he must have just opened. "Alright, you can look now, just don't go into the next area. I want it to be a blind surprise again." He gently places me on the ground before giving my head a soft pat. I could get used to this, being cradled and sweet talked. Soft and gentle head pats....

"3....2......1...." I open my eyes and look all around. "This is so amazing Bowser." The entire area of the garden is covered in different fruit bushes and trees. I look to the left and see a whole wall made out of strawberry bushes, then to my left a wall made out of blueberries bushes. I see a bunch of miscellaneous fruit trees further along the garden path. "It's so beautiful here"

"We can't trade with the other kingdoms for fruit so we send scavengers to bring back fruit seeds and we plant them here, I love fruit so much" he says with a soft chuckle. I'm glad they've managed to become self sufficient over all the years of everyone hating them. I keep walking forward and see a wall of the castle covered in vines with grapes, watermelon, and kiwi. Wow that have a whole collection... in the middle of the wines their is a beautiful hand made waterfall with a tiny pond underneath. I can tell how much love and compassion has went through this garden. I mean it's a garden full of fruit, he could have just made it super boring but efficient but he put thought into it.

"You have a very beautiful mind bowser" I turn around to see him smiling wide with a soft blush on his face.

"Thank you, that's the first time I've ever heard that one." His eyes seem to be glazed over a bit, he seems extremely happy and comfortable. He's just a big teddy bear really. "Now, close your eyes again." He says approaching me with his arms out getting ready to pick me up again. I close my eyes and wait a couple seconds before I feel his warm hands sweep me off of my feet once more. "Okay, don't open them until I tell you okay." I feel a soft finger touch my nose.

"Oh- okay" he giggles a little bit with my response. Fuck, stop falling for this Luigi. I hear the sound of another gate creek open, I almost forgot what he told me and opened my eyes but I didn't. I wait patiently as he continues to walk.

"Almost, keep them closed until I say remember. No peeking mister." I nod my head in acknowledgement. Seconds later I feel him gently start to move down and place me down on what feels like some sort of cloth. "Okay, this is gonna feel weird around your ear just warning you." He slides something between my ear and into my hair. Something kind of cool to the touch and just a tiny bit wet. "Okay, and open." I open my eyes to see a red and white checkered blanket spread across the grass and a picnic basket.

"Oh my gods.... You made a whole picnic for us."

"Not for us... for you." He says as he takes his seat on the ground in front of me. I notice all the butterflies in this area fluttering around unbothered and beautiful. I look past a bit and see a number of different kinds of flowers. Lavender, chamomile, jasmine, hibiscus.

"This area.... Is it for tea ?" I say in a questioning tone. He seemed a bit shocked but happy I knew.

"Yeah! Are you a big fan of tea as well ?"

"Yeah, when I was a kid I had a sore throat almost all the time so my mom and Mario would go pick flowers for me and make tea." Oh Mario, I hope your not gonna hate me forever for being friends with bowser.

"Well, I guess he's not as bad as he seems then"

"Yeah... he's a really good brother. He must be just brainwashed by peach...."

"Sorry to interrupt your gathering your highness." I turn around to see breath standing there holding someone in a hooded cloak hostage. Bowser gets up shocked.

"Breath.... What are you doing here." I look up at bowser who then leaps in-front of me in a protective position.

"Oh calm down, I happen to quite fancy that damsel in distress your hiding from me. Hey Lilly." He says with a smirk leaning a bit so he can see my face.

"Oh that's breath !" I say standing up and moving to bowsers side. "He walks me home and checks up on me. I met him my first time walking to your castle."

"Oh lovely.." I listen as the jealous tone escapes bowsers mouth. "So breath. Who is this friend of yours." He says addressing the character breath is holding. In a split second breath throws them to the ground before stepping on their back to keep them their.

"I've noticed this one spying on Lilly, I watched and stopped them before they could use this on you, your highness." He pulls out a sleep dart and throws in on the ground near the hooded character. Bowser looks over to me.

"Lilly huh ?"

"Oh he probably forgot about that by now since you've wow'd him with your amazing castle and all but that's the nickname I gave him."

"Wait, I recognize that mark..." I walk forward, bowser stops me but I look at him questioned. "Don't worry I'll be okay." He takes a deep breathe, looks to breath than back to me and gives me a nod. I continue towards the character. "Oh my gods... that's the mark of Princess Daisy's spy's"
