Chapter 23: Bowser's Lullaby

Breath had gone off to the dungeons to meet Kamek there. I'm assuming to talk about the note and our transportation to the coordinates later. I knock on Bowsers door gently then wait a couple of seconds. I listen as he shuffles out of his bed; his footsteps getting closer and closer until the door swings open. He looks down at me before smiling at the sight of my face. "Oh Luigi, come in I was just thinking about you." I blush a bit, he was thinking about me while sitting in his room all alone. He goes back to his bed, I follow into his room before closing the door behind. The sun was almost done setting and the room was lit by a little moonlight and the two candles he had lit. He looks up at me before patting a spot beside him beckoning me to sit. "This might sound weird but, I really missed you." Oh Bowser please don't do this please. My heart begins to warm and my body's natural reaction seems to be to get closer to him. I take a few steps forward before sitting right next to him.

"I don't think it's weird at all."

"Really ?!" He says full of a little excitement, I notice his tail wagging behind him slowly. I smile a bit but he doesn't seem to notice. "Honestly, I couldn't sleep once you left. I.... I think you make me really comfortable. My mind and body where so relaxed when you were in here sleeping."

"Why didn't you sleep next to me ?" I ask him curiously. He looks down at me with a puzzled expression.

"I- uh. I didn't know if I was allowed too." I can't help but giggle a bit. As I giggle I look up at him watching his face slowly burn a bright scarlet red.  "I'm serious, I didn't wanna impede on your boundaries or anything...." He looks away full of embarrassment. I don't know why but this feels different. My body just seems to be craving him and only him. My mind begging my body to move closer and closer. I look up at him before moving closer.

"I was a little sad you weren't next to me when I woke up." He quickly snaps his head back to me meeting my gaze. His face extremely red with shock written all over it.

"I- I really wanted to lay next to you... to hold you in my arms as you slept and told you everything was gonna be okay. I wanted you to hear my heart and let it calm you down....." it's as if he wasn't sure he wanted to say all this. The way the words were coming out of his mouth were as if he was afraid. Not sure what the outcome of this would be.

"I would have really liked that, honestly that would have made me feel a-lot better." I'm caught by surprise as I feel his hand touch mine. He lets it rest there before using his other hand lifting my head up to look into his eyes. My heartbeat accelerates, his eyes filled once more with adoration. I've never had anyone look at me like this before. My mind wanders off into deep thought again, back to the dream I had before. How in a perfect world we would be together. I- I want that so badly. I think back to Mario's words, how he said he's willing to learn to accept Bowser. What did those words mean, does he know ? Was he implying he'd be okay if I were to date him...?

"Y-your always welcome to stay in bed with me you know. Next time I'll hold you close in my arms and guide you to sleep." He says still with a soft blush on his cheeks. I feel my face begin to burn. He moves his hand, that was placed onto my chin, to my cheek. He leans down slowly my body moves on its own leaning in to meet him halfway. Our lips meet but this time it was different. The kiss was warm and sweet, I've only ever had one kiss before and it was with him. I didn't know how to kiss properly but as I said. My body was moving on its own. His lips danced with my top lip and mine with his bottom. Just as soon as it began it ended. We both pulled away looking into each other's eyes. He smiled at me before leaning back into bed. "Do you feel it too....?" He asks with a soft, calming voice.

"Feel what...?"

"I think..... I didn't want to say it before but I think we belong together." He stares down at me, still with the same adoration filled eyes. Is that what I've been feeling this entire time... is that why my body moved by itself. Why my mind seemed to be craving his touch ? I didn't wanna give him a straight answer. Even though I knew the truth.

"Bowser... we can't."

"I know... but truly my soul feels at home when I'm in your presence. My body relaxes when I hear your voice. My mind.... It silences when I look at you. I don't know how to explain it but, it's like my heart, my everything it reacted when I met you for the first time. That must mean something, right ?" My eyes well up with tears, my heart cracks as I look into his eyes. Our souls yearning for each other yet we know the consequences. "Shhh don't cry.... I know it hurts I feel it in my heart too." It was then I noticed he's been crying this entire time. He must have the same feeling in his heart as I do. He leans up again grabbing me and gently pulling me down with him onto the bed. I fit like the last puzzle piece perfectly into his arms, I listen to his fastened heart beat slowly match the one in my chest. That has to mean something.

"I do, I do feel it Bowser...."

"Just enjoy this moment.... Let the warmth of my arms surround you. Silence your mind with my voice.... Just relax." He whispers into my ear, his breath hitting the back of my neck creating a wonderful sensation. Then I notice him take a deeper breath as usual. He begins singing to me with a calm breathy voice, just loud enough for me to hear it.

In my arms is where you lay
And in my heart is where you'll stay

I know this world is a little scary
Give me your worries and I will bury

The world is cruel and so unfair
But you will always have a teddy bearrrrrr~

He kiss my head gently before giggling softly in my ear. "I'm the teddy bear." He whispers in my ear. Tears fall down my cheek as I play the melody over and over in my head. Is this what love feels like..... I don't love him do I...? He starts to pat my head softly while humming the melody to me. It wasn't long before once again I fell asleep.
