It was cold in the new room.
When Ali woke up, at least. She got used to it. The only thing she didn't get used to was the questions.
Aka the billion things swirling around her brain she had no idea the answer to and they were all about where she was and Roy and if Cocoa and Maria were okay and-
She sighed. She wasn't getting answers any time soon. The only time anyone had come down into this pit of doom was while she was asleep, to drop a ham sandwich off.
Well, at least they knew her favourite.
Ali ate it slowly, gnawing on every bite. Just as she finished, licking her fingers from the mustard that had seeped out from the edges, a thought jolted her enough that she was finally, actually awake.
Roy Roy Roy.
Oh gods, no.
As soon as Ali had that thought, a million others followed that she had been keeping off unknowingly.
Before she could even start to process the first, the door creaked open, and someone was thrust inside by someone Ali couldn't see.
Maria stumbled towards her, and Ali caught her with a quick hug-and-release.
"Where have you been?" she asked. "Have you seen Roy? Where are we-"
Maria shushed her. "How am I supposed to know that?"
"I don't know, because you haven't been locked in a dungeon for the past who-knows-how-long?"
"Actually," Maria said, brushing herself off and giving her hair a quick comb, "I have too. The only light I've seen was crazy dim. At least you have a nightlight in here."
"There's a..." Ali spotted the glow from a corner of the room. She hadn't even noticed the small light before Maria had pointed it out, which proved she wasn't too observant.
"Hey," Maria said, jolting awake. "Have you seen Cocoa?"
"You haven't?" Ali asked, and Maria responded with a shake of her head. "Neither have I."
The pair slouched on the ground for a moment, hoping and wondering if their friend was safe. And free. Ali hoped she was free too.
"Do you remember the wolf?" Ali half asked, half whispered. Maria didn't reply. "Do you?"
"Yeah. Well, kinda. I guess you didn't see me nod."
"Must have missed it."
"I figured."
Ali got up and turned around, starting to pace like those people on TV. Then she stopped, forgetting why she had started in the first place.
"Did you see who knocked us out?" Ali asked. "They came from behind me, but that's where you were, right?"
"No," Maria said, too quick, like she always did when she was lying. Ali looked over the top of her imaginary glasses. Maria sighed.
"Okay, I did, but I didn't want you to be so mad..."
"Why would I be mad?"
"Because the person that knocked you out..." Maria bit her lip. "It was your mom."

A/N: Another episode of In The Dungeon With Maria! Except this time, it's Roy's. And her mom's, I suppose. Any thoughts?
