Ali woke up for two reasons.
1) loud neighbours
2) her dream
The dream was the same as always, except for two little changes that made a difference.
This time, there was a face and there were words.
Almost every night now she had the same dream, the same stalker of her sleep, and it wouldn't change no matter how hard she tried.
The exact same things happened to her every night.
It started out fine.
At the beginning she was wading in a crystal clear river with wildlife all around her in the centre of a forest. That part was better than most dreams she had.
That was, until something interrupted her moment of peace.
Because then she noticed a small stream of rust-coloured liquid flowing beside her. For a few minutes she just stared at it.
Until it got bigger.
And bigger.
And bigger.
Then, once it could fit her, lying down, something else came along.
A corpse.
Then Ali screamed and ran.
It was as if she was running in slow motion, and soon after that the -now blood red- water dissolved into darkness and then she was in darkness.
Running along the edge of a cliff.
A wolf was chasing after her, a white wolf, and it had crimson blood on its lips.
It was talking.
"Find the others. Save me. Ali, I need you." The wolf repeated this over and over again along the rocky cliff which had no end.
Then, she fell. Ali felt a push, and then she fell. The strangest part, though, was that she actually hit the ground.
You never do in an ordinary dream, she'd read that somewhere, so this nightmare was out of the ordinary.
Not that Ali didn't already know that.
She hit the ground, but stayed alive.
And then woke up.
Oh, one more detail. The face on the corpse?
It was hers.
