Ali rubbed her head and groaned, sitting up in a blinding white room. She squeezed her eyes shut, opening them one at a time a moment after.
"Where am I?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
"The hospital room," a sweet voice replied. Ali realized it was her mom after a second.
"What's that?" she asked, not quite expecting an answer.
She didn't get one.
"Ali, dear, you should get back to sleep. You hurt yourself, you know," Mom said in a full-tub-of-icing voice. Had she gone crazy? This was not like her at all.
"But I don't wanna..."
She fell back into an unwilling sleep.
•••---•••
"Ali! Ali!" someone screamed in her ear. She bolted up, and saw Maria with wide eyes sitting next to her. "Get up, we're getting out!"
"Wha? What do you mean, getting out, it's so nice here," she said, noticing a tiny pink unicorn dancing on Maria's head. She pointed a drooping finger at it and smiled sloppily.
"Look, it's a rainbow..!" Ali said, dragging out the words. A rainbow- and it had some silver in it too! So pretty, Ali thought, drifting off into sleep with a smile.
•••---•••
She jolted up.
"Where am I?" she demanded, then noticing that no one was around. She was in a dark room... No, it was a cave. Or something. She moved her hand, searching for a wall-
"Ouch!" Ali yelped, shaking her hand off. She squinted, examining her hand. Wow. She'd cut it.
"Anyone got a band-aid around here?" Ali asked the room. Not that it was going to respond...
She wiped her hand on her grimy shorts and cursed her decision. It would only make it worse. She hoped it wouldn't get infected (never mind, she realized, it's teensy, it can't get infected).
A gunshot rang out from a distance. Ali's heart skipped a beat. No, they couldn't have been shot...
She ran out into the hall (looks like it wasn't a cave after all) and ran into a wall.
Looked like that wasn't the hallway after all.
She felt her way around the room and, after half a minute or so, found a doorknob. Ali turned it- nope, wrong way- and flew out into the hall.
To the left-
"Maria!" she screamed, letting out a sob as her knees gave out.

A/N: I'm out of school for the summer, so I should be writing longer/better chapters for a while.
Wondering what happened to Maria? Sorry, you'll have to wait for next chapter (I know, I'm evil like that).
