As soon as the guards left, Ali looked around for Maria. No Maria, and no hole in the wall. Maybe it was in another cell? If it was, she'd have to escape whenever she got in.
There were 2 other people she could see in the dark place, and she was pretty sure there was something huddled in the corner crying.
It was dark, and she could barely see.
There was one candle, but it gave off a dim light that was spooky in the stone room. Except for 4 barrels of hay smushed along the side, there was nothing the dungeon.
"Hey." One of the people spoke, and Ali was startled. She hadn't noticed her before. "What's your name?"
"Lia." When you give a fake name, stick with it. Another thing Ali had learned.
"Lex. This gal's Nellie, and then there's Rhana. She's been off her rocker ever since she got into this place."
"She is smart though," said Nellie. "You can't deny it. She's some sort of witch."
Lex and Nellie were tall and wide, Lex being the bigger of the two. They looked like they could stand a beating.
Rhana, on the other hand, probably couldn't. Even curled up, Ali could tell she was petite.
"Never love, never live. The only way is to love the live," Rhana muttered, rocking back and forth in the corner.
Ali's eyes widened so big Lex didn't need a candle to see them. The older girl laughed. "She does that all the time. Don't worry. We jus' ignore it."
"Oh-okay." Ali though of something she hadn't bothered asking. "Has anyone named Maria been here?"
"Mari? Yeah. She got moved down the hall earlier. Know her?"
"She's a friend."
"She ain't your friend any more, Lia. She was right wacky, that one." Lex's words hurt, but Ali shook them off. Maria wouldn't turn out like Rhana. She was strong.
"The wolf of dreams will come in time, bringing help to those with no dimes."
"What was that?" Ali snapped around. Wolf of dreams... Somehow that was important. She struggled to find something, and then she got it.
The dream she'd had. Ali'd half forgotten it since she'd arrived in the new world, but it was important. She knew that.
"Something something, blah blah blah. Who cares." Lex intervened with Ali's thoughts.
"The wolf of dreams will come in time, bringing help to those with no dimes."
Rhana repeated the words. They scared Ali, even though she'd only known them for moments.
"Those are important."
"Mari said that too. Something about a dream about a wolf. It got her off topic of some traitor, so we were good with it."
"Traitor?" Ali was learning all sorts of new things while talking to these people.
"Some guy. Had a weird name."
"Tom? Ed? Sandy?"
"Sure, could have been."
"Which one?" Lex shrugged.
"D'you expect me to remember everything?"
Ali paced the small room. "Ed disappeared. He's the only one I would have thought could do something like that. Sandy's too nice, and Tom's too Tom. She wouldn't have been talking about herself, and it obviously isn't me."
"What are ya talkin' about?"
"I remember," said Nellie in a small voice. Ali stared at her, a smile creeping on and off her face. "It was-"
The door creaked open and Nellie stopped.
"Nellie is to be moved," said the same guard who had brought Ali in. He hauled Nellie out into the hallway and locked the door.
"Come on!"
The traitor would have to wait, much to Ali's disappointment.

A/N: I'm going to try to update more regularly now. Every week, probably.
Anyone have any clue who the traitor might be? And how could Rhana know about the dream? Maybe Ali's plan won't work so perfectly after all. Thanks for reading! (Chop chop chop.)
