Ed fell to the ground.
"Ed!" called Tom. He didn't answer. "Ed, wake up!"
"I don't think he's going to." Ali's lip quivered as she said the six words that might send Tom into tears.
She noticed that only one slipped down his face. "What do you mean, he won't? Of course he will. Even that time when he fell off the high monkey bars and broke both his wrists..." Tom trailed off and a distant smile appeared on his face. He chuckled. "Boy, Uncle Fred was mad at you. He is so much like his brother. Dad would have been furious if I'd done that."
"You're cousins?" Ali interjected. Tom nodded vigorously.
"Born in the same week. I'm older."
Just as Tom finished his sentence, a loud snore echoed through the woods. Neither of them could pinpoint where it was coming from.
"Watch out. There could be someone else here," Tom said, standing up.
Both Tom and Ali looked around a second time, but there was nobody other than them and Ed-
Who was the one snoring, Ali thought.
"So he's asleep," she murmured.
"Huh?"
"He's sleeping. That's him snoring."
"Thank goodness," Tom sighed. "He's alive."
"Of course he is," Ali said. "Didn't you notice he was breathing?"
"No, 'course not. And you couldn't have mentioned this to me?" he complained.
She shrugged. "Thought you knew."
Ali looked up to see what Ed had touched, and it seemed as though Tom had just noticed it too.
Just like his cousin, he reached his hand up to touch it. Ali barely had time to shout not to before his hand was there.
Tom snapped out of his trance, jerking his hand back.
"What is that thing? It was, I don't know, controlling me or something. It was like I couldn't help but touch it."
Ali got the an idea to help figure out what the thing was. It looked like the hilt of a sword, but was a metallic silver. "Did it tell you something?"
"Yeah, it- how did you know that?"
"You mean it did?" Tom nodded like a maniac.
"Said something like 'Come to me, tree'. Didn't make much sense."
"Could it have been 3, and not tree?"
"I guess."
Ali ran away quickly. She didn't know why, but somehow that was connected to the dreams they'd been having. She needed to ask Cocoa about their corpses, she thought. If Ed woke up...
But he wouldn't. At least not until they figured some stuff out.
"Ali?" called an easily recognisable voice. "What are you doing back here so quick?"
Panting, Ali answered. "I need to ask you something. And it's weird."
"I'm open."
"In your dream, what order were our corpses in?"
Cocoa squeezed her eyes shut, like she wasn't expecting the question. "You were last. Maria was second. I know Sandy was fourth, but I forget the others."
"The order we'll die," Ali murmured.
"Wha?"
"Thanks."
Without saying another word, Ali ran back to where she had left Tom and Ed.
Tom was on the verge of tears.
There was no sign of Ed.

A/N I actually updated quickly! I am very surprised at myself. Usually it takes at least a couple days, more often a week.
And Ali's actually figured something out? That's important? What could the corpse order mean? Trust me, it's, well, there aren't any words to describe it in my vocabulary. If you're Ed, it's bad. If you're Ali, it's better. But not good.
Random Crazy Question: What's Ali's full first name? First person to get it right gets a RCQ Award!
As you can probably tell, I'm really really happy right now for no reason!!!!!!!!!!!!
