Ali knew she couldn't do anything when Nellie was taken by the guards.
So she waited.
And luckily for her, they came the next day.
Unluckily, it was to drop someone off.
Lex greeted her. Rowan. That's what she said her name was.
"What did you do to get in here?" Lex asked gruffly. Rowan shrank. "Come on, tell us."
She mumbled something. Ali couldn't make it out, but Lex obviously could. She chuckled. "That was clever of you. Very smart."
Sarcasm. It oozed through the words.
"What was it?" said Ali. Rowan fiddled with a silver charm bracelet.
"Ran into a castle wall. An invisible castle wall."
"Sure, it was invisible." Lex obviously didn't believe her.
"It was! There was a hole-"
"In the wall," Ali finished. "Trust me, not everyone can see it." Rowan stared at Ali.
"You can see it too?" Ali nodded.
"So could one of my friends."
A guard opened the door. Not again, Ali thought.
"Lia Alle?" Ali stepped up to the door. She turned and winked at Rowan.
Hopefully the wall would be open for her.
•••---•••
No other humans were in the cell.
Only a wolf with eyes as bright as rubies, glittering in the dim light.
The wolf from her dream.
"Hello, Ali," it greeted her. "I am Quendel, and I need you to release me."
"How can I release you when I can't get out myself?"
Quendel chuckled, as well as a talking wolf can. "You will find a way."
Then there was no light in the chamber. The glowing eyes had shut off.
"Where did you go?" she asked the wolf. There was no reply. "Please! Come out!"
The wolf was gone.
Then why, if he could get out so easily, was he asking for help to get out? It seemed kind of stupid to Ali.
Probably 'cause it was.
She was thinking of this, thinking about how the wolf had just vanished, for what seemed like hours but was likely minutes, according to time.
Then the wall disappeared, and Ali was left staring at a hole.A/N: Of course, I'm still horrible at updating, but I'll be able to more because I'm finishing my other book (Closing the Door) in a few chapters. Then I'll be able to focus more attention on Dream Wolf.
