"Time is your greatest enemy" Maverick started as he and Ashley stood in front of the group, "Phase One of the mission will be a low level ingress attacking in two-plane teams" Maverick explained
"You will fly along this narrow canyon to the target," Ashley spoke, "There are radar - guided surface to air missiles that defend that area... these SAMs are lethal" Ashley said
"They were designed to protect the skies above, not the canyon below" Maverick said
"That's because the enemy knows no one is insane enough to try and fly below them" Bradley spoke up
"That is exactly what we are going to train you to do" Maverick said, looking at Ashley then diverting his eyes back to the group
"On the day, your altitude will be one hundred feet maximum" Maverick said, "You exceed this altitude, radar will spot you and youre dead" Maverick said
"Your airspeed will be six hundred and sixty knots... minimum" Ashley said
"Time to target: two and a half minutes" Maverick said
"That's because fifth-generation fighters wait at an air base nearby. In a head to head with these planes, in your F-18s, you're dead" Maverick said, pausing for a momnet before turning to face everyone again, "That is why you need to get in, hit the target and be gone before these planes even have a chance of catching you" Maverick spoke
"This makes time your greatest adversary" Maverick said.
"You will fly a route in your navigation system that stimulates the canyon," Ashley began, "The faster you navigate this canyon, the harder it will be to stay under the radar of the enemy SAMS" Ashley informed them
"The tighter the turns, the more intensely the force of gravity on your body multiples", compressing your lungs, forcing the blood from your brain, impairing your judgement and reaction time" Ashley said
"That is why today's lesson, we're going to take it easy on you. Max ceiling: 300 feet. Time to target: three minutes..." Ashley told them as each one of the pilots and WSOs looked shocked and worried
"Good luck" Maverick said
Phoenix, Bob and Coyote headed out for their training. They flew over the mountains as they followed the stimulated navigation of the canyon.
"Time to target is one minute thirty" Bob spoke, "We are two seconds behind. Increase to four hundred and eighty knots"
