ASHLEY SAT IN HER ROOM, after she returned from training, when there was a knock at her door. She pulled it open to see Goose and Maverick standing on the other side, with Rob
"Hey guys" Ashley spoke
"We're all heading down to the beach for a game of volleyball, if you want to come?" Goose spoke
"Uh.. sure. Give me five minutes?" Ashley spoke
"Yeah, we'll be at Goose's truck when you're ready" Maverick spoke. The boys left and Ashley changed into a pair of denim shorts and a vest top, pulling on her leather jacket and trainers before heading out to Goose's truck. She hopped into the backseat next to Rob and they headed off down to the beach where the rest of their contingent were.
"Beginning to think you lot weren't gonna come and admit defeat to us" Slider joked as they all stepped out of the truck
"Hilarious, Slider" Rob rolled his eyes at the man
"Now, you lot are here, should we get started?" Iceman asked
Soon, the boys were topless and sweaty, playing a continous round of volleyball, with Maverick and Goose on one side and Iceman and Slider on the other. Ashley sat on the sidelines with Rob as she basked in the hot sunshine of Miramar, during the season of summer.
After a while, Maverick had left on his bike which he drove down and Goose ran over to Rob and Ashley, "Hey, I need another person on my team"
"Where's Mav gone?" Ashley asked
"Off to see someone" Goose spoke
"Ash, you could play" Rob suggested
"Would you?" Goose asked
Ashley looked between her brother and friend, letting out a sigh, "Okay" She stood from her seat and kicked off her shoes and dumped her jacket onto the chair before running over to the volleyball court
"Ready?" Goose asked
"Yeah" Ashley smiled as she looked across the net as Iceman threw the girl a wink. Iceman served the ball and the game began. Ashley and Goose managed to knock the ball back over to the other side until the final toss was hit from Slider. Ashley ran backwards as the ball went tumbling towards her and she knocked it back to the other side, with the two men missing it and it fell to the sand
"We won!" Goose triumphantly cheered, lifting his arms up into the air, before embracing the girl in a celebratory hug
"Nice going, Thunder" Slider spoke, shaking Ashley's hand
"Thanks" Ashley smiled
"Well done, Thunder" Iceman spoke
"Ashley... Call me Ashley" She said, smiling at him before turning to her brother as they embraced each other.
They headed back to the base and as Ashley walked through the corridor when she saw Maverick at the other end, with a towel on the back on his neck, resting on his shoulders, "Where did you get off to earlier?" Ashley asked as she walked over to him
"I went to see someone"
"Ohh, anyone in particular? Like Charlie?" Ashley asked, as Maverick stayed quiet, "Aw! Cute" Ashley spoke
"How did the rest of the volleyball game go?" Maverick asked, changing the subject away from him and Charlotte
"Well, I joined Goose's team and we beat Ice and Slider" Ashley spoke
"Well done" Maverick spoke. The elevator dinged, and as the door opened, Charlie was stood in already, wearing a cap and some civilian clothing
"I'll see you later" Ashley spoke, leaving Maverick. She turned briefly to watch him step into the elevator.
She changed out of the clothes and into some clean ones and headed over to the bar, alone.
"Can I have a beer, please?" Ashley asked as she stepped over to the bar
"Coming up" The bartender spoke. He carried over her beer and she paid for it. The dull sound of the jukebox echoed through the room as Ashley sat alone, in her own thoughts.
"All alone?" A voice spoke from behind her. Ashley turned to see Slider stood behind her
"Yeah. The guys are doing something else, I think" Ashley spoke
"Oh right" Slider spoke. He sat with Ashley for a while, talking and laughing together as they drank their beers. They headed back to the base together and she headed back to her room when she found Iceman, leaning against the wall next to her door
"Hey" Ashley spoke, noticing her presence to the man who looked down, spinning a pen in his hand and chewing gum, as per usual.
"Hi" He spoke, looking up as he shoved his pen back into his pocket
"Everything okay?" Ashley asked, curiously
Ice didn't say anything as he stepped forward to the girl, taking her face in his hands and planting a kiss on her lips, much to Ashley's surprise.
He pulled away and left Ashley standing outside her bedroom door, slightly stunned at his sudden and very unexpected kiss.

Hello. I hope you have enjoyed this chapter. The original plan when I first wrote this book a few months ago, I planned to have Ashley and Maverick get together but him leave her for Charlotte. However I've decided to keep the original storyline of Maverick and Charlotte and have Ashley and Iceman fall in love
