Kennedy Simmons

I woke to my phone ringing. When I opened my eyes, the sun had barely come out, so that made me wonder why someone would call me that early. Many bad scenarios were made in my head.

Someone had died.

Someone was after me.

I was going to jail for some reason.

Everything was possible and no, I was not overreacting. I was already kidnapped by drug dealers.

I tried to move so that I could reach my phone but something restrained me. I looked down and saw a muscular hand holding me against a lean but also muscular body.

Harry was sleeping next to me and he looked so peaceful and innocent that I almost didn't recognise him!

The way he looked had nothing to do with the way he looked yesterday. At that moment, if I didn't know him, I would swear he was an angel that was sent to Earth by God to do good!

His face was soft, and his demanding and strong demeanour of his had disappeared. No muscle of his was tensed. He looked so innocent and vulnerable that it was terrifying!

My thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing again. I couldn't escape from Harry's tight grip, but I didn't want to wake him up either, so I stretched my hands and eventually managed to reach my phone that was on the black nightstand right next to my bed.

I carefully sat up on the bed without waking Harry up. Even though I had changed position his strong arm was still around me.

"Hello?"

"Good morning, sunshine. I was going to work and decided to call you. How are you, my love?"

Love?

Back then Archie had told each other 'I love you'. I guess he still loved me but did I love him?

Yes. If what I feel isn't love then I don't know what it is.

"I'm fine. Thanks for calling."

"Were you sleeping?"

"Yes."

"Seriously, Kennedy Rose Simmons? You need a job. You can't waste precious time sleeping while you could be searching for one. If you weren't that lazy you would probably have a proper job by now. Why are you so useless?"

It was needless to say that I felt awful. I felt like the most useless and lazy person in the world. He was right. I should be searching for a job and not sleeping even though it was just 6 am. I was in need of a job, and instead of doing something about it, I was wasting my time.

"I'm sorry. You're right."

"Of course I'm right. Sometimes I wonder why I date someone so dumb. You need to find a job yet here you are sleeping like the lazy girl you are..."

I stopped listening to what he was saying when Harry's grip became tighter. I looked down at him. He had just woken up, and he was looking at me, giving me a questioning look.

I had to admit that his morning face was the cutest and most innocent thing I had ever seen! That face didn't fit a murderer like him.

I had the urge to stroke his face with my fingers and brush his messy hair on the side, but thankfully, I contained myself before I could do so.

"Kennedy, are you listening to me?"

God, I hated that name.

Kennedy.

Archie's voice echoed in my ear. "Yes. I'm listening to you. I'm sorry. I'll try harder. I won't waste more time." I didn't want to upset him, so I said what I knew would please him, even though searching for a job was the last thing I wanted to do that day.
