Small Worlds- Mac Miller

When Cara's alarm clock buzzed at 8:30, she smiled as soon as the sun came through her window. Slowly pulling herself out of bed, she climbed out to sit on the fire escape and watch the city coming to life. The air was still breezy, swaying her hair as she stood. The sounds of cars and people moving all around filled her ears.

Her life had truly changed completely. She was off on her own, she loved her apartment, her city, her co-worker, and now she had a man interested in her just as much as she was in him. Her smile grew wide as she jumped a little, making the stairs wobble slightly and effectively bringing her back to reality, immediately stilling and climbing back through the window.

Cara changed into a floral pink summer dress, and left her hair in waves. Her hair had lightened from the sun outside, and her tan was getting darker. After her everyday routine, she slipped into a pair of ivory kitten heels and sprayed her perfume.

Skipping out, she found Bucky sitting at the table with a piece of toast in his hands. His hair was messy and he was wearing a white cotton shirt and plaid pajama pants. Cara put her hand on his shoulder, leaning her head over him to see what he was reading. Bucky jumped slightly before turning towards her and smiling.

"What are you reading about?" Cara stood above him, with him still sitting. Bucky put his hands on her waist, watching her eyes.

"There's a new club opening tonight down the road."

"That sounds interesting." Cara pushed a piece of hair out of his eyes.

"You should go dancing with me tonight." Cara smiled and put both of her hands on his shoulders.

"Okay." Cara hesitated before stepping away and moving into the kitchen to make herself two slices of toast and a cup of tea. She soon joined Bucky at the table.

"Where's Steve?" Cara noticed the blonde boy's absence.

"He had to open the store today. I think he said he would be back around 3:00." Cara hummed while eating her breakfast. Cara looked over the other side of the newspaper.

"They're already talking about the World Exposition? I thought it wasn't for months."

"It isn't, but everyone's in a tizzy about him claiming to have new inventions never attempted before." Bucky put air quotes over the last words. The two sat in a comfortable silence until they were finished.

Checking the time, Cara realized she only had a couple of minutes before she needed to leave, so she got up and washed her dishes, grabbing her purse. Bucky stood up to wash out his mug.

"I'll see you later tonight, doll. Be ready by 8:00." Cara smiled at him before leaning up and kissing him on the cheek. The girl skipped out the door with a wave before Bucky could say anything, leaving him standing with a smile on his face.

"Gwen!" The girl behind the counter immediately smiled at her before filling up a to-go cup for a customer. While they worked fast during rush hour, Cara looked at her and breathlessly chuckled. "I have so much to tell you!"

"He sounds so perfect for you!" Once the store had slowed down with only the occasional person, Cara filled Gwen in on everything that happened the night before. "You have been here less than two weeks and you already have a man obsessed with you." Cara bit her lip and smiled.

"I really really like him. We're going on a date tonight." Gwen gasped before hitting her arm.

"Do you have an outfit to wear?" Cara nodded before filling up a cup for a customer.

"Have you talked to Peter?" Gwen groaned at the mention.

"It's like he hates everyone. He doesn't even like talking to the teacher."

"Maybe he's just shy." Cara shrugged her shoulders, making Gwen hum frustratedly.

"Or he is secretly a serial killer and a psychopath trying to save me from himself because he is actually obsessed with me!"

"What does he like?"

"He is always reading books. Loves the science ones."

"There you go! Try to talk to him about science." The front bell distracted both girls from each other, watching Bucky walk in. He smiled wide as soon as he saw her behind the counter.

"Hey doll." Bucky walked up to the counter and leaned his elbows against it. Gwen took it as a hint to walk away, but not before gasping silently at Cara.

"Hey Buck." Cara smiled and bit her lip at Bucky. Cara balanced her weight on her heels. "What brings you in today?"

"Nothing much. About to go to work but I wanted to stop and check on my girl." Bucky winked at her, making her blush profusely.

"Well I am doing amazing. I'm excited for tonight." Cara shifted on her heels with a smile.

"So am I, doll. I have to head out, but I'll see you later. Counting the minutes!" Bucky leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek before walking out to go to work.

"He is gorgeous! I mean definitely not my type but gorgeous either way!" Gwen rested her head on Cara's shoulder before patting her other shoulder. Cara just stood with a smile on her blushing face.

The wait for her shift to be over was the slowest time had ever passed. As soon as the clock struck 4:00, Cara was out the door. She walked into the apartment to find Steve working on schoolwork in the kitchen. She gave him a quick smile before walking to her room. She had four hours to wash her hair, shave her legs, do her hair and makeup, and try to look good.

Cara took the time to shampoo her hair before shaving her legs and scrubbing her body with vanilla scented body soap. She let her face sit with ice cubes on each side while her hair sat in rollers. Cara truly believed that if Steve walked in, he would think she was possessed by the devil by her appearance.

Most of her time consisted of waiting for her hair to completely dry before she took the rollers out to reveal her curled hair. Her makeup was simple, but with a red lip to match her new red dress. The finishing touch was her parting her hair and clipping the sides back with her hair clips from Jane.

Cara took one last look in the mirror before smiling and slipping on her heels and checking the time. 7:50. The last time she heard Bucky was him taking a shower twenty minutes ago. Cara nervously opened the door to find Bucky fixing his hair in the bathroom mirror with the door open. As soon as Bucky heard her door, he turned to look at her and immediately smiled, taking the time to look her over.

Cara walked up to him, fixing the side of his hair that he missed and smiling at him softly. He was wearing a white long sleeve dress shirt with tan trousers and dress shoes. The top button of his top was undone and his sleeves were rolled up.

"You look beautiful, doll." Bucky smiled again before leaning in to kiss her softly. "Don't want to mess up your pretty makeup yet." He winked at her, making her smile again.

"I got you something." Bucky broke the silence by moving through the apartment and into the kitchen. He picked up a small bouquet, making her gasp softly. It was six lilies wrapped together with a red bow. "They reminded me of you."

"How so?" Cara held the bouquet gently.

"Lillies remind me of summer, and so do you." Bucky spoke quietly, leaning closer to her when he talked. Cara smiled widely before pulling him into another sweet kiss with her empty hand on his neck. She pulled away to put the flowers in a vase.

"You ready to go?" Cara nodded before grabbing her purse. Bucky held the front door open for her.

"After you, doll."
