Crush- Cigarettes After Sex

Rain fell roughly from the gray sky as Bucky stood with Cara under the black umbrella. Cara shook violently, but not from the rain. Her face was puffy and stained with tears as the ceremony went on. Bucky's hand in hers was the only comfort she felt. She could barely hear the man speaking over the sky. Her shoes were muddy and her black dress was soaked immediately as the sky started to spout.

"We all gather here today to honor the memory of a dear friend and daughter. Gwendolyne Stacy was a young girl taken from this world far too soon. She was intelligent, independent, extremely driven and a little stubborn at times." The feeble attempt at a joke fell on deaf ears. Gwen's little sister sobbed into her father's arms, who stood stone faced staring at her coffin. The funeral was a closed casket, for her skull cracked open after she fell from the railing of a building. Gwen and Peter were finally hanging out. It was not her time. It was too soon.

Cara zoned out of the speech as more tears poured from her eyes and she covered her mouth with her hand, choking down a sob. She immediately searched for the comfort of Bucky. He welcomed her with open arms and words of reassurance. His free arm held her flat against his torso, her face buried into his shirt as she let out all of her emotions. Her arms were wrapped tightly around him. How she was going to let go of him in two days was beyond her. He was her new normal and she can't think of New York without thinking of him.

"It's going to be okay, I promise." Bucky kissed her forehead softly before resting his chin on her head. Her tears slowed down a tiny bit, but she still stayed in his arms. The speech finished and Cara watched from blurry eyes as her casket was lowered into the ground. She let out a small hiccup and Bucky's hand squeezed her shoulder.

The rest of the ceremony went smoothly and Cara watched her casket down with watery eyes and a blank face. The one true friend she had made besides the boys was gone. She loved Gwen so much.

"Do you want to attend the memorial or do you want to head out early?" Bucky asked gently as he moved her hair away from the face. People were getting in their cars to go over to the Stacy house.

"Can we just go home?" Cara closed her eyes for a second.

"Of course, doll." Bucky put his hand on her back and led her to the bus stop. There was no one out in this weather. The umbrella kept them from completely soaking any more.

Cara was silent the rest of the afternoon, even when Bucky brought her a grilled cheese with tomato soup and her favorite tea, her thanks was barely above a whisper. He sat next to her in her bed without a word and pulled her close into his side. Her arms were wrapped around her knees, but she rested her head on his chest. His heartbeat calmed her head for a bit. Bucky played with the ends of her hair and just enjoyed her company.

"How do you feel?" His whisper broke the comfortable silence.

"It was so unexpected." Cara's eyes watered again thinking about the previous events. "I can't imagine if that was me. Her sister looks so much like Dorothy."

"Well it was not you and it never will be. You are going to live a long and fulfilling life as a badass. You're going to be the 90 year old in the nursing home that they can't believe is still living her best life." Cara huffed lightly, smiling a little bit. Bucky noticed the quirk of her lip and smiled widely.

"There's the smile I know and love." Cara rolled her eyes, but couldn't stop her smile from growing into a full on grin. Bucky kissed her cheek and twirled a blonde curl.

"You love my smile, huh?" Cara smiled widely and put her face close to Bucky's. He laughed at her.

"I love everything about you, doll." Her face turned bright red. Bucky hesitated before speaking again. "I love you Cara."
