Fearless- Taylor Swift
There were three weeks until Bucky was sent back to Europe, and Cara was determined to make the most of their time together. Half of the time, all three of them were doing stuff together, Darla being a new addition. Steve finally grew the balls to ask her to be his girlfriend, and she said yes. It was like watching two puppies. Steve would take her out and draw her something, and she would find it the most romantic thing and paint him new pictures. Half of his bedroom wall had random watercolor doodles hanging.
It was around four on a sunny Saturday, and neither had work the next day. The whole week they were nonstop working and both were ready for time off. Cara packed a picnic basket with different sandwiches and a few sides. She planned to bring him down to the park for a chill night. Cara's thoughts were bouncing as she thought about her and Bucky. She didn't know what they were. He never asked her to be his girlfriend, but he treated her as such, and called her "his girl" on different occasions.
"Guess who?" Two manly hands clasped together over her eyes, and the man who was obviously Bucky lowered his voice three octaves. Cara just smiled and stood in place.
"I don't know. Let me guess, dark hair, blue eyes, and a very weird sense of humor?" Bucky spun her on her feet to face him.
"Spot on." He kissed her forehead before going to make a cup of coffee. "What's in the basket?"
"It's a surprise." Cara sucked in her lips before smiling. She was a terrible liar. Bucky rolled his eyes, smiling.
"Be ready in 10!" Cara jumped and practically skipped to her room. Cara changed into a yellow sundress and braided her hair before grabbing her purse and putting on a pair of white flats. Putting on her sunglasses, she opened her bedroom door to find Bucky standing with a white button up with the top buttons undone, and tan trousers.
"You ready?" Cara nodded before reaching to grab the basket, but Bucky grabbed it before she could, giving her a look so she would back down. "I have arms, ya'know."
"So do I. Lead the way, doll." Cara walked out the door and to the sidewalk first, letting Bucky catch up to her. As they walked, Bucky held her left hand with his right, keeping his body facing the road. He didn't want a repeat of their first date.
The summer sun beat down onto Cara's hair, making her head feel warm. The streets bustled around them with people going home from work. When they passed The Daily Bugle, Cara waved at Gwen through the window, who waved and winked at her back. She was sitting with who Cara guessed was Peter. He was tall and skinny, with dark brown hair and a sharp jawline.
As they approached the park, there was a group of kids playing with velcro bow and arrows, sticking to their clothes and playing dead. Cara just smiled at them as they walked to a seat under a magnolia tree to set up their picnic. Bucky pulled out the cream blanket while Cara laid out two bottles of lemonade and two sandwiches. They both sat down next to each other. Bucky smiled at her cheekily.
"I got you something." Bucky said. Cara smiled back at him with her eyebrows raised. She laid her back against the blanket and put her hands on her torso.
"And what would that be?" He moved to the basket and pulled out a lily. Cara bit her lip and blushed at him.
"A lily for my lily." Cara just laughed at his corny joke while he tucked the flower behind her ear.
"Thank you Buck." She reached over and kissed him on the cheek before sipping on her lemonade, thinking about the question pending in her head. Her thoughts zoned out for a second as she pulled apart a piece of grass.
