Brooklyn Baby - Lana Del Rey
"What the hell do you mean you got recruited!?" Cara stood in front of Steve, who was packing for training camp.
"It's a special project they're working on. I don't even know about it yet." This only infuriated her more.
"You don't know what it is!? What if it's dangerous, Steve?" Cara waved her arms helplessly.
"What if it is Cara? This is my duty. I need to do this. This is what the country needs to win this war." Cara scoffed.
"God, why do you feel the need to fix everything around you? You act like you being a soldier is the deciding factor by which we win or lose! You don't need to do anything. This is suicide. What you need to do is stay here where you're safe and you have people who love you! Stay with your girlfriend who loves you to the moon and back!"
"You know I can't! I already feel guilty not being able to go, and now I have the chance to go? I'm going. End of discussion!" Cara sucked in a shaky breath and tried not to let her tears fall.
"I can't lose you too, Steve. What if you get hurt?" Steve sighed gently.
"Bucky is out there every day and you don't say anything. What if he gets hurt?"
"I know there's no stopping him."
"There's no stopping me either." Steve looked her in the eye. Cara crossed her arms and looked at her socks.
"How long will you be gone?" Cara bit her lip.
"Training is ten weeks. After that, I don't know what I will be doing." Cara closed her eyes for a second before pulling Steve into a tight hug. He gladly returned the hug. She pulled back and smiled at him.
"Has anyone ever told you you look like Bambi?" Cara furrowed her brows.
"What?"
"You have huge eyes. You look like Bambi!" Cara scoffed playfully as Steve laughed.
"Whatever." She pushed his shoulder lightly. The mood was a lot better. Cara took a deep breath.
"Be safe, please." Cara whispered, fidgeting with the cuff of her sleeve.
"I promise." Steve smiled at her softly. A knock on the doorframe revealed a puffy faced Darla. Her curly brown hair was going every which way and she was wearing Steve's pajamas. Cara took the hint and walked to the living room. Soon, there would only be two left for months. The thought made a lump rise in her throat.
The two walked out a few minutes later, fresh tears on Darla's cheeks and Steve's mood had dampened a little.
"I'll be back before you know it." Steve kissed Darla one last time and gave her a bone crushing hug. "Bye Bambi." Steve smiled and waved at Cara before walking out the door. Cara immediately went up to Darla and rubbed her back. Darla wrapped her arms around Cara's torso tightly, the blonde immediately returning the hug.
"It gets easier, honey. Trust me." Darla sniffled before pulling away.
"Can we go out tonight? I need to do something fun." Cara smiled wide.
"Of course. i heard good things about this club in dowtown?" Darla's eyes lit up as she shook her head.
"You have the facial features of a fairy." Darla giggled at Cara as she was doing her makeup. Darla had feline green eyes with thick eyelashes, freckles over her nose, and thick brows with full lips.
"A lot of guys are freaked out by my eyebrows." Cara brushed them into place with soap and a spooley.
"Are you serious? I wish mine were this nice." Darla smiled at the compliment. "Your features compliment each other so well." Cara pulled back and squealed, clapping her hands slightly.
