The following day Mä'reyna sat in her fathers hur eating fruits with her mother. Soon her father joined them hugging both women as he entered.
"Ah daughter we must talk" he said sitting down next to his wife picking up a peice of yellow fruit, Mä'reyna tilted his head in confusion as she looked towards her father.
"well, your mother and i believe you should become olo'eyktan soon, i will retire my place and you shall step in" he began
"oh my eywa!! yes thats much sooner than expected but such an honor" the girl said looking happily between both her parents, why were they not celebrating in the way she was?
"daughter.."her mother placed a comforting hand on her knee, "this means you will have to chose a mate before you can become olo'eyktan and tsahìk" the girls mood immediately dropped, choose a mate? I mean she'd kind of promised herself to lo'ak but she didnt expect anything to happen this fast.
"i am assuming you have nobody in mind" her father spoke, "im sure zeekell will be fine with this agreement." the girl couldnt even say anything she couldnt think she just sat there with her mouth open. Before she had even noticed her father had left the hut, going to tell zeekell about the arrangement.
A gentle hug enclosed reyna as silent tears fell down her face.
Later the girl stood practicing shooting her arrows at a tree, she hadnt talked to anyone all day not even her mother. Soon an angry lo'ak could be seen out of her pereferal vision.
"Hey, whats this about you and zeekell?" he said pulling the girls body so she would turn to look at him, however her eyes remained staring at the floor.
"Reyna answer me" he said placing both hands on her upper arms, "please"
"my father has arranged it" she spoke softly and quietly her voice breaking as if she were holding back tears.
"what?" the boy said taking a step back
"he said to be the next olo'eyktan and tsahìk i had to mate, he chose zeekell." she said still staring at the floor.
"we can leave, yeah come on we can run away we can leave on our ikran and just be together " he spoke pulling up the girls chin to force her to look at him.
"no lo'ak.." she spoke
"yes reyna come on we can" the boy began dragging her arm into the forest
"no lo'ak you cannot ask for that, you cannot ask for me to leave my people." she said pulling her arm away from him, now she was crying.
"fine look ill just talk to your father okay?" he said pulling the girls head to his chest
"lo'ak if you tell my father you will have to battle with zeekell for my love. i do not want to see you get hurt." she spoke before the boy pulled away and began walking,
"and i dont wanna see you mate with another man"
Later that day reyna sat with kiri under a large tree panicked about what lo'ak was going to do. Soon a small village girl ran to her, "the olo'eyktan wishes to see you" she said panting as she was out of breath. Reyna nodded taking the girls hand, turning to kiri beconing for her to come along too and walking back to her fathers hut. Once they had reached the hut the two girls thanked the younger mesager before entering to see lo'ak, the rest of the sully family and zeekell, along with both of her own parents.
"Daughter, please sit." her father pointed to a space where she could be seen by everyone in the room.
"as you know to become olo'eyktan we said you must mate, however our plan of you being mated with zeekell may not fall through as lo'ak here as requested to take role as your mate aswell." as the olo'eyktan spoke small gasps could be heard from the sully family.
"what have you done lo'ak?" neytiri whispered placing a hand on her son's shoulder.
"now it is tradition that these boys must fight to win your approval, it has always been our way and since lo'ak is now kekunan there will be no exceptions"
