In the restroom of La Yeon, Tessa dabbed on her lips with a tissue after applying her pale pink lipstick.
She and Soonyoung had just completed their Valentine’s Day dinner and she was working up the courage to spring her surprise on him.
Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she took a deep breath and walked towards her boyfriend who was waiting at their usual table.
Soonyoung smiled wide at Tessa. “Good to go, baby?”
Tessa nervously looked at the waiter who had come to give them their receipt and smiled at him. She was familiar with this waiter as he had served her and her family countless times before. It was also the same one who served them during her first date with Soonyoung.
Soonyoung caught her nervousness immediately. “Is everything alright, baby?”
Tessa tried to smile as naturally as she could.
But Soonyoung knew her too well.
“You know you’re pretty easy to read, right?” Soonyoung extended his hand to place it on top of Tessa’s. “I’m here for you, baby. Whenever you’re ready, okay?”
Tessa swallowed hard. “Let’s go home, baby. I’m feeling a bit queasy.”
Soonyoung snickered. “I don’t know if you noticed but you ate more than usual tonight. That could be it.”
Smiling weakly, Tessa nodded. “Maybe.”
Soonyoung stood up and took Tessa by the hand. “Okay, baby. Let’s go home.”
The walk to the parking lot and the drive home were unusually quiet.
As soon as they entered Tessa’s room, Soonyoung hugged Tessa tightly. “I know you’re not breaking up with me. So I wonder if what’s bothering you is work-related.”
Tessa leaned into her boyfriend. “No, it’s not work-related. It involves you, actually.”
Soonyoung looked at Tessa expectantly. “Oh. Did I do something wrong?”
Tessa turned to face Soonyoung. “No.”
“Okay?” He replied, patiently.
Tessa breathed in deeply. “Baby, we’re pregnant.”
Soonyoung’s eyes shot wide open. It took him a few minutes, but it did sink in eventually. His face broke out into a smile. “Baby, the weirdest thing just happened. I thought I heard you say…”
Tessa punched her boyfriend’s arm. “Kwon Soonyoung, we ARE pregnant.”
“What??? Oh my God! Oh my goodness! Baby!!!” Soonyoung let go of Tessa and sat on the bed. Both his hands flew to his temples. “How far along are we?”
“Just entered my fourth month.” She took a picture out of her bag and handed it to Soonyoung. It was a sonogram. “This was taken yesterday. The sonologist said that she had an extraordinarily strong heartbeat. Say hi to our little one.”
Soonyoung stared at the picture. “This little one is inside your tummy right now?”
Tessa chuckled. “Well, the proper term would be my uterus but yes.”
“You said SHE???”
“It seems like we are having a girl.”
“Oh wow! A daughter? How far along are we, love?”
“You just asked me that.” Tessa laughed again. “Literally just entered my fourth month.”
“When did you find out?”
“About two months ago. Eomma accompanied me to the OB to be sure.”
“Is that why you’ve been randomly throwing up in the mornings, baby?”
Tessa smiled.
“Why did it take you so long to share this with me, love? I mean, I’m not angry. I’m simply curious.”
“You know how Deuk-im suffered miscarriages? Well, I wanted to be sure that our baby held before I told you anything.”
Soonyoung nodded. “Okay. Who else knows, baby?”
“My family, your sister, Nonie-oppa, Wonwoo-oppa and Junnie-Ge.”
“What about my parents? Do they know?”
Tessa shook her head. “I thought I’d give you that honor, baby.”
“Wow, they are going to be so thrilled about this.”
“Really, baby? You don’t think that they would be mad or anything like that?”
Soonyoung took Tessa’s hands lovingly into his. “Baby, my parents know that we share a room in this huge mansion and have been doing so for months now. If I hadn’t gotten you knocked up despite us not using any contraception, they would have sent me to the doctor to get a check-up.”
Tessa couldn’t help but laugh.
“Only issue I would have from a pregnancy would be from the company however when it is literally your employer whom you’ve procreated with…..” Soonyoung rubbed his hands together in jest.
“You’re the cutest little tiger there ever was, baby.” Tessa laughed loudly again.
“What do you mean little? Baby, I just found out that my soldiers work! There’s nothing little about this tiger. Now let’s get you all cleaned up and well-rested. You and that tiger cub are going to sleep.”
“It’s not that late yet, baby. I thought I’d watch some TV first.”
Soonyoung scooped Tessa up into his arms, bridal style. He started walking towards the bathroom. “As long as you’re in bed and resting, baby. I mean, Mommy baby and baby baby.”
Tessa covered her face with both her hands. “Oh, please dear God. Grant me the patience for this baby-talking behavior.”
Soonyoung chuckled. “I literally have to do aegyo during fan meets and interviews, baby. You will survive from second-hand embarrassment.”
