"Yen ma, marriage agi two days thaan aguthu athukula papa ku purchase enna avasaram?" (It's been only two days since we got married, why are you purchasing a dress for our baby?)
"Ayyo Siveyy," Ashwi held her left hand behind me and slapped another hand against her forehead. "Ithu enna kids wear nu ah pootu iruku? Women's fashion nu thane potu iruku. Ennakaga purchase pannen." She shoved one pair of denim shorts against my chest and continued checking dresses in the next row. (Is this labelled as Kids wear? It's Women's fashion, I'm shopping for myself.)
I once again raised the hanger of the crop top she purchased and checked from behind her. It was way too short for a crop top and the short pants are not a high waist model.
"Itha eppo podurathu?" I followed behind her. (When are you going to wear this?)
"Itha veliyava potutu poga mudiyum?" She turned towards me and placed her hands on her waist. (How can I wear this and go out?)
With the white leggings and mint green kurti top, fresh mangalyam thread, open hair, vermillion in her hairline, she looked beautiful as she snapped her finger in front of me, angrily.
"Then?" I blinked my eyes, collecting myself.
"To wear at home." She crossed her arms. "What were you thinking when I was talking?"
Home ah? Ethuko plan panra alert agiko da. (To wear at home? She is planning for something, stay alert.)
I took a step closer to her. "Ivlo azhaga irukiye naalaniku night unna enna pannalam nu yosichen." I hugged the bundle of dresses she made me carry. (Was thinking what to do with you after two nights.)
"Naalaniku thaana? Naalaiku kooda illaiya?" She pouted at me and I shook my head. (Only the day after tomorrow? Now even tomorrow?)
She turned around angrily and continued shopping. We are at her parents house for the Maru Veedu ceremony and it's going to be a two day stay. When she was delayed to get ready this morning because of me, she wanted to know why I was behaving like a needy person.
"Inga iruka mathiri athai, mama veetla iruka mudiyathu la." I bent and bit the tender on her shoulder as I helped hooking her blouse. (We cannot be like this when we are at your parents house.)
"Don't bite me." She turned and checked in the mirror whether I had hooked her blouse correctly and if there were any marks from where I bit her. "Why can't you be like yourself when you are at my parents house?"
