Run Like You Mean It (Berlin wolves series)

Chapter 23

"I thought you said Scar was bringing them to me?" I asked when we were farther into the trees. 

       "If you want to stay alive you will listen to me carefully. Scar only wants you until he has to move to another area. Then he will kill you. He has to take your friend and bring her to her mother as a debt. If you want to save her and yourself you have to do exactly what I say," Emmett said stopping before a tree.

  "I thought Rose said he wasn't going to take Rylee home?" I questioned.

 "He wasn't. Until he found out that he could stop her from ever shifting. He was going to kill her along with if she shifted before he left...but then he discovered a way to keep her from shifting forever. Its very painful and not fun, so you need to get out of here before he does it," He said un locking my cuffs.

      "Now listen. After dark I will make an excuse to come down and patrol the cells. I will unlock your cells and sneak you out a back way from the cave. I can take you to your friends and then I have to return. The reason I brought you out here was so you could contact your friends. But...Scar is planning to start a war. He was going to put it off, but after this he might attack immediately," Emmett said pulling out his phone.

  I carefully took it from him.

"Why are you helping me?" I asked suspiciously.

      "Because Scar did this same thing to my sister and mother. I don't want it happening to anyone else. Now hurry. You have five minutes," Emmett said walking away a short distance to give me some privacy.

  I dialed Alec's number and prayed to God he answered.

~~Alec's POV~~

    An unfamiliar ringtone sounded in my pocket from my phone. Pulling it out I answered while trying to half listen to our plan.

 "Hello."

   "Alec? Oh thank god," Lia said on the other line.

"Lia. Baby are you okay??" I asked worriedly.

  At the mention of her name everyone was quiet.

"Listen I only have a couple of minutes. Don't come for me yet. I'll be back with Rylee sometime tonight or maybe tomorrow night. We have someone on the inside helping us...his name is Emmett," Lia said sounding rushed.

  "Emmett. Let me speak to him, please," I asked her nicely.

"Okay. I love you. See you soon," She said into the phone.

  "Love you too baby," I replied before I heard the rustleing of the phone.

"Hello," A gruff voice said on the other line.

   "Emmett. I want you to get them out of there as soon as possible. If even one hair on Lia's head gets hurt I will hunt you down and kill you," I told him.

   "Lia will not get hurt you have my word. Now I must go. They will be expecting her back soon," Emmett said before hanging up.

   "Well?" Brian said quickly.

  "We wait," I told them sighing.

 I would have to trust Lia that she knows what she's doing.

  ~~Lia's POV~~

     After talking to Alec I felt a lot better than before. Emmett had to get me back to the camp before anyone, Scar, noticed I was gone. We made our way through the woods quickly and quietly.

    "I will come get you either tonight or if I cannot it will have to be tomorrow," Emmett said putting the handcuffs back on me and then dragging me roughly out of the trees.

   Yes it hurt, but Emmett had to make It look believable for everyone. Although when we where in the camp not that many people were out walking around. Just the few that were patrolling. Emmett gave a few curt nods to everyone that gave him weird looks and they went back to their business. When I was put back in my cell I made sure that Emmett was gone before I crawled over to Rylee. She was sleeping and I didn't blame her. I decided what I had to say was much more important than her sleeping so I gently shook her shoulder.

  "Rylee," I said as she sat up and yawned.

"What is it?" She asked me,

    "We're getting out of here. If not tonight then tomorrow night," I told her.

She sat straight up then, "How?!"

   "Shhhhh. There's this guy, Emmett. He told me Scar did this to his family too. He said that he didn't want that happening to us because Scar really is going to kill us both, Rylee. So after everyone's asleep then he'll come down and let us out and take us out a secret way. Rylee, Scar can keep you from ever shifting. And he's planning to start a war. A big one," I told her.

  I heard the slamming of a door and footsteps coming down the stairs. I shut up and sat back waiting for whoever it was. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Emmett.

   "I bought us 10 minutes to sneak out. I supposed to bring you guys food so eat the bread fast," He said unlocking our cells and giving us the bread.

  Rylee and I stood up and followed him to the back of the cave where he pushed a stone wall to reveal a passage big enough for one person at a time to fit in. Rylee slipped in first, then me, then Emmett. Since Rylee was up front Emmett had to tell her where to go. After several twists and turns I was convinced that we were lost. Until I spotted light through what looked like branches from a tree.

  "Where does this come out at?" I asked Emmett.

     "The trunk of a willow tree. We're near the highway," He said as we came out of the trunk of the tree and into the sunlight.

   I looked at Rylee and smiled; she smiled back.

 "Come on. If we want to make it we have to hurry. We cant let them catch up with us," Emmett said fast walking out of the cover of the trees and out onto the side of the highway.

  Cars flew by at didn't even spare us a glance. They didn't seem to notice three strange people walking down the highway. Or if they did then they didn't care. I had no idea how long we had been walking when I stopped at hearing a noise. Emmett noticed me stop and turned around. Rylee soon caught on and they both gave me weird looks.

   "What is it?" Emmett asked me.

"I heard something," I said looking across the highway at the trees over there.

    I waited. Seeing if I could hear it again. That's when something flew by me and hit the tree right beside my head. Arrows. Hunters.

    "Go!" I yelled running into the cover of the trees.

"it's starting!" Emmett yelled from beside me.

   "What has?" I asked as the unmistakable wizzing of arrows didn't stop for a second.

"The war," He said and for the first time, I kept running.

  Hola Amigos. So I am EXTREMELY sorry for the super late update. I've had some stuff going on at school and with my family. SO I have on request from you guys. On my other book I have a thousand or so reads. But I want votes and fans. So I really know that you guys are following me through this whole thing. And I hope you are.
