Run Like You Mean It (Berlin wolves series)

Chapter 1

I pulled up the driveway to my house so I could pack somethings. After I got off the phone with Beck, we agreed we needed to leave tonight and that some of us neede to go in wolf form to circle perimeters. I walked in the front door and listened. My dad wouldnt be home from work just yet so that meant I had a few minutes before he would come home. I quickly packed some clothes and shoes. Then I zipped up the bag and raced downstairs, and out the door to my car. I reved up the engine and pulled out of the driveway quickly in my haste to get to the pack house. I was there in minutes and I flew up the driveway spraying dirt all over. I got out and walked up to the front door. It opened before I could knock.

  "Hey,' Alec said smiling.

"Hey," I said walking in.

  I sat down on the couch and waited for Beck to get here. When he arrived we all stood outside and talked.

  "Okay Colby, you and Derek take four others and split up the perimeter territory. Go now," I said.

They all shifted and I heard a scream from the yard behind a bush. I walked towards it.

  "Rylee? Chase?" I yelled.

They stepped out from behind the bushes and looked at me angrily.

 "What the hell are you doing here with these people Lia?" Rylee asked me.

Oh boy...

 I was untterly shocked at what I was witnessing. Rylee and Chase had just seen something they weren't supposed to.

  "Okay um, right now might not be the best time to explain it," I said looking back and forth between them.

  "The hell it isnt! We want answers and we want them now! We just saw people turn into wolves right before our eyes. And from what kowledge i've gained of them from books, they are extremely dangerous and mean! Now tell me why your here!" Rylee shouted.

  "Okay um, for starters..im part of this pack. Why? Becuase I'm a werewolf. Yeah, I said werewolf. All these people here are. Those guys you saw, they're part of this pack too. Brian is our Alpha. And its a little hard to explain right now, but I will explain," I told them calmly.

  "Lia," Alec said as he and Beck walked over towards me.

"We're kinda on the run right now. So if you'll excuse me for a moment,' I said then walked back to Beck and Alec.

  "What the hell are they doing here?" Alec asked me.

"I honestly dont know. Maybe they followed me. But I just thought of something, now that they've seen us, we have no choice but to tell them and take them with us. If we dont, they could get killed," I said looking at Beck.

  He nodded and I looked back at Rylee and Chase to motion them to follow us. They did, but hesitantly. When we reached the porch Brian was already standing there staring at me.

  "They followed me here. I had no knowledge of them following me and I exposed out secret to the humans and I am sorry Alpha." I said bowing my head in submission.

  "I know you did not lead them here on purpose. I will not punish you, exempt for the fact that I will have you- in pack terms- grounded. This means that you will-" Brian began to speak but Rylee inturrepted.

 "Are you seriously punishing my best friend? She didnt do anything to you and you have no right to punish her!" Rylee was yelling now.

  I looked back at her and if looks could kill im sure Rylee would be a heap on the ground.

"Rylee maybe you shouldnt inturrupt this. It seems like they mean buisness," Chase said pulling her back.

  Every werewolfs eye was trained on Rylee and I could see it in her eyes that she was done.

 "Sorry Alpha," I said again bowing my head in submission.

"Punishment is nothing. I have changed my mind. Though I should im not going to. Now isnt the time to be bestowing punishments when we could easily have been gone by now," Brian said stepping forward off the porch towards Rylee.

  "We are the mighty werewolves. Keepers and protecters of the human race. We were created for your well being and safety. Many people over the centuries believed that we were a curse sent from the Gods to punish them; to kill them. But that is not who we are. We prestent ourselves with as much peace and humblnes as our wolves will allow. I must explain the task at hand carefully. We are being hunted down, and scavenged out. By none other than the Hunters. The Elders will be here in several weeks to assist us. We are leaving this place to go into hiding. It is far too dangerous for you- to know something so secret that the Elders will possibly kill us for telling humans who where never ment to know- to stay here unprotected. You must come with us," Brian said as every eyes trained on him, as the Alpha.

  Even Rylee and Chase looked at Brian with awe. I had never seen so much power in him; so much of a ruler. Every single eye that was looking at Brian- Rylee and Chase included- nodded to him and began to prepare. Beck turned me aorund to look at him, and he absently started playing with my hair.

  "There's something I should tell you about being mates. When we are finally together, our thought will be locked into each others minds. No one else can hear them or speak to us," He said a small smile playing on his lips.

 I smiled back at him, "I think that could work to our advantage."

    "Lia," Rylee said to me.

"Yeah," I said turning to face her.

  "I understand why you never told me now. But who are Hunters and the Elders?" She asked me.

 "The Hunters are the people that where trained for centuries to hunt and kill us. The Elders are kind of like our whole government. Like President Obama is with humans," I rectied as clearly as I could.

  A voice rang out above all and I knew it was our Alpha calling us all to attention.

"We are ready to leave. The perimeter is secure. Take separates routes to Helen, so if they do find us, they wont have all of us together at once. We will all be together again soon. Good lukc to you all," Brian said at he dove off into the trees.

  I looked at Rylee, Chase, and Beck before we got in the car and put on my most serious face possible,  "Let's do this."
