"Did you hear?" Asked Antonio as Taylor walked up the steps with her bag slung on one shoulder and her long black hair tied up in a ponytail.
"Hear what?" She asked back as Jay handed her a coffee.
"They're back." Said Jay as he sat down with a huff.
"I'm sorry, who's back?"
"Girl, I thought you lived in Chicago when you were younger." Said Kim.
"I did but when idiots say things with no meaning behind it, I'm a little stuck."
"Hey! I'm not an idiot. You are. Why don't you watch the news?"
"I do, I was just busy this morning. I hit the gym early. What's going on?"
"Yo, guys. Two cops are dead." Said Kevin as he sat up in his seat with his phone in his hand.
"Can someone please tell me what is going on?" Asked Taylor as she looked around at everyone, her face full of confusion.
"You remember that case from the group home about ten years ago. Loads of girls went missing." Said Adam.
"Oh yeah. I remember. The cops gave up looking. I was like seventeen, I think."
"Okay, a few more then ten years ago but you get my point."
"Missing for ten years? I feel bad for the families." Said Antonio.
"They didn't have families. It was the reason they were in the group home." Said Taylor with a slight tone of anger in her voice.
"They had friends though. It still hurts." Said Jay as he got up and left the room.
Taylor was quick to follow him out and soon they were stood in the hallway. Jay couldn't face Taylor, let alone look at her.
"What's going on?" Asked Taylor.
"It doesn't matter. Just join the rest of the group."
"No. You're hurting."
"Just leave."
"Jay."
"Leave!"
Taylor looked taken aback at his tone. She took a few steps back as a small tear slowly made it's way down her face. She was quick to wipe it away.
Crying makes you weak.
She went back to the others while Jay took a breather.
*Jay's Pov*
I like Taylor. She's been working with us for a few months now and everyone loves her. It's like she was always a part of the team.
She used to be a cop down in California but she moved to Chicago due to her district being shut down. They didn't have the money to keep it open and so a few of them shut. It was a small building anyway and her team was old. They were all close to retirement.
I hate talking about the case of the missing girls because that night, Will and I lost someone. We lost a friend of ours. I was fifteen at the time and Will was sixteen.
I remember sitting at the dinner table, eating the best roast dinner our mom had ever made but it was all ruined by that one phone call.
"Will, you know you shouldn't have your phone at the dinner table." Said mom as Will got up and left the room to take the call.
I was scooping up a spoonful of peas when Will rushed into the kitchen and switched the TV on.
"Jesus, William. Not so loud." Sighed dad as he pushed his chair back to turn the TV down.
"Is that Riley's home? What happened?" I asked as I ran to the door and grabbed my jacket.
Will and I hurried to get our shoes on before we ran three blocks to get to the group home.
We went to run to the door but cops held us back. We weren't reporters so why couldn't we see. Surely Riley had to be okay.
Detectives filled the scene as they talked with other cops. I saw jackets that read FBI and even the mayor was there. Whatever happened here, it was big. Big enough to rattle Chicago.
"I just heard. I came over as soon as I could." Said Will as he walked up to me and engulfed me in a hug.
"Cops are dead, Will. Whatever happened to those girls, it was bad."
"Sorry to interrupt, Voight wants us to head down to the scene, see what we're dealing with." Said Taylor as she looked around the corner.
"Oh. Hey, Will."
"Hey, Taylor. I still haven't caught that beer with you. Want to go tonight? Molly's?"
"Yeah sure. See you there. Jay, let's go."
"See ya, Will." I said and followed Taylor out.
"What are we looking at?" Asked Voight to the lead Detective, Anderson.
"We're not sure. We were able to identify three of the females as: Susan Park, Karly Smith and Billie Smith."
"Can we talk to them?" I asked.
"No. They are very closed off at the moment. They keep talking about some Agency. They need to kill this Agency."
"That's odd." Said Kevin.
"Very and they killed two cops. They are extremely skilled. Antonio, I know you box but not even you could take one of these girls on."
"Seriously?" Asked Taylor.
"Seriously. We've got a video of the way they move, it's very skilled almost like they could do it in their sleep."
"Thanks. Are we okay to look around?" Asked Hank.
"Of course."
I walked off with Taylor because I needed to apologise for the situation earlier. I didn't mean to shout but it just got to me.
"Hey, I'm sorry about earlier."
"It's fine."
"It's not. I shouldn't have shouted. I was stressed, I still am, but it doesn't excuse my behaviour."
"It's okay. Let me guess, you knew someone from the group home."
"Yeah. Will and I both did."
"What was she like?"
"She was good. Her parents died when she was young so she was living there. She often came round our house and played Fifa. She was good at that, she used to beat Will all the time. Sometimes we'd do one v two. She'd always win."
"She sounds great."
"Yeah she was. We don't know what happened to her. She was in the first home that was raided. We went to the house and there was blood on the floor. We broke into the building a few days later to try and work it out ourselves but eventually, we gave up. Just like everyone else. When I became a cop, I spent my first few months looking through all the information but I couod never find anything. No piece of hair out of place, no fabric left behind. Nothing. They had all just vanished. Even her."
"I'm so sorry, Jay. It was horrible to watch the news from home about it, it was probably even worse when you knew someone from it. I'm sorry you and Will had to go through that."
"It's fine. It's not your fault."
"C'mon guys! We're heading back." Called Antonio and we jogged over.
"You find anything useful?" I asked.
"Not really. But we do know one thing, they are trained assassins and they've killed a lot of people."
"Hilarious, Antonio." I said and lightly pushed him.
I turned around to look at Taylor as she dropped her head and let out a sigh. She pushed past us and avoided eye contact. Did we do something?
