Chapter 21

Josh's POV

Her hand was soft and warm against mine, as if the cold of the night was only superficial to her because inside she was sunshine.

We walked silently for a while down the beach until she stopped and sat down on the sand. I took my place on her right side, never letting go of our linked hands as we both looked at the starry night sky above us.

"You look beautiful tonight" I said softly.

She did. Her outfit made her seem delicate and fragile while her hair, now a curly mess thanks to the wind gave her an exotic look.

"Thank you" she whispered, catching her gaze with mine.

"I'm sorry I ruined your night. You were so excited about this Hawaiian party..." I trailed off, because I really did feel awful about it. I didn't only ruin her night, but I might have damaged her friendship with Nick.

"It's okay.... I remember thinking all day that I wished I could go with you and not Nick. But honestly, I was having a great time with him, for once, he actually felt like a friend to me and I was enjoying it... and I'm guessing that so was he" there was a moment of silence and when she spoke up again, her voice was softer.

"Why did you hit him?" she looked up at my eyes, knowing it will be impossible for me to lie to her that way.

"When you were drinking he caressed your face... and you didn't stop him. I guess it sounds stupid now but I was just jealous" I looked away but she stroked my face and made me look at her.

"When I was drinking, I was so nervous about you watching me all night that I tried to swallow the drink so fast that a little spilled from my mouth. Nick was just trying to clean me up..." she explained slowly.

"Well now I feel even more stupid" I muttered under my breath. 

She giggled and placed a kiss on my cheek.

"What was that for?" I asked confused.

"Distracting you from your self-pity, and apparently it worked!" she said with a smile.

"I can think of a better way to distract me" I said suggestively.

I didn't give her a chance to ask what I was talking about. I turned to my left side to face her and leaned in for a kiss.

Liz's POV

He presses his mouth against mine and I can't help letting out an involuntarily sigh. He pushes me down, making me lay down on the sand while his body is plastered on mine, his heat seeping into me. 

"Let me in" he whispers on my mouth.... and I do, I part my lips and he slips his tongue inside, deepening the kiss.

My hand gets tangled in his hair and I pull him even more to me; if that's even possible.

Butterflies start fluttering in my stomach and I stop kissing him. He looks questioningly down at me and I just smile. 

"I think I love you" he stares at me and I start feeling self conscious about  saying that stupid evil phrase but then he smiles back at me.

"I love you too" he says.

"Oh thank God! I thought you were going to start laughing at me for saying it" I said, letting out a relieved breath.

"I would never laugh at you! Especially when you said what I've been waiting you to say for a while" I was going to make a snarky comment so it wouldn't go to his head but he planted a soft kiss on my lips before I had a chance.

A flush of sensations ran through me and for the first time in a very long time I felt... happy.

But as I looked up at Josh, I knew there was something I had to do before I could enjoy this new found 'happiness'.

"I gotta go talk to Nick" I said slowly.

He gave me a half smile, "I know.... can I walk you to his room?"

I nod and he helps me up.

Time to fix this awful crazy mess I made.
