Chapter 23 - The sad truth

After they arrive at EverBrave village, Sonic told Tails the whole entire story. Tails didn't understand this but he realized how deeply painful it is. It was like a knife to the heart. Sonic glared at him and said, "You don't need to feel sorry for me. Nor can you feel pity for me." Tails asked, "Why not? Your my friend and my...." Sonic interrupted, "...Brother? Yes you are and I took care of you." Tails was confused and asked, "What are you talking about?" Sonic answered him coldly, "I'll tell you what I'm talking about. It's time I told you Miles Prower." Tails cringed at the very mention of his real name before the two of them walked to the woods. They stopped at two tombstones as Tails asked, "What is this about Sonic?" Sonic sighed deeply and said without looking at his two-tailed companion, "These are your parents graves." Tails eyes widened and whispered in shock, "Wh-What..?" Sonic then continued, "Just after I left, I found you..." He then growled as he said, "...As a 2 year old fox. Along with you were your dead parents." He then said as he looked at him with the eyes of a wild animal, "WHO WERE KILLED BY THE NOCTRUNUS!!" Sonic can think back to the day of he actually met Tails.

Sonic heard a baby cry in the distance. He turned to see the Noctrunus running away. Before he can chase after them, something caught his eyes. Two dead foxes, bleeding all over. He then sees a 2 year old fox with two tails. Sonic felt heartache as he sees the orphaned fox. Sonic kneeled down as he sadly looked at the baby fox. He then said as the fox himself looked at him, "No one is gonna harm you little one. I'm here now." The baby fox felt comfort and hugged Sonic. The blue hedgehog hugged back as he whispered, "It's okay. I'm here for you." He looked at the name 'seeing his name was Miles'. He then said while comforting the two tailed toddler fox, "I'll call you Tails. I'll take care of you... As my brother."

Tails felt like collapsing onto the floor. Sonic then said, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier. Even the most painful moments are the most hard to remember. I know it's hard to believe." Tails cried and said as he looked down, "This is actually hard to believe. Now I really know how painful it is that you lost your sister and everyone." Sonic then said as he sighed deeply, "Every single one of our old friends were involved. Roder, Sally, Cyrus, Antone, my Uncle Chuck, Mina, Ash, Tangle, and Jet, they didn't stand a chance." Tails gasped as he thought, "So that's why Sonic was so cold towards Knuckles at the mountains and stabbed him. Was he one of them? I don't know." Tails then said as he held Sonics hand, "Why? You didn't deserve that sadness. Neither did I. But you suffering and have no other choice? That really was a scar that can't heal. I'm so sorry Buddy." Sonic coldly but softly replied without looking at him, "Don't blame it on yourself Tails. If you want to blame someone. Blame the monsters who did this. I swear I will murder these God damn Noctrunus and it's awful echidna minions." The two looked down as Sonic hugged Tails for comfort.
