HAWKINS had haunted the Mayfield sisters since the moment they arrived. They hadn't known peace for awhile, and it wasn't going to change anytime soon. Max hadn't left her sister's side since they arrived at the hospital. She would only leave if she needed to use the bathroom. Not having a home anymore, she stayed every night at the hospital with her only living family member. Who was barely even breathing. It had been a miracle when Lennon's heart began beating again. One Max couldn't shake off. It had been two days. Two. And her sister wasn't awake yet. Her arms and right leg were wrapped in casts, her eyes closed with veins very noticeable under them. Around her neck was a collar, and her nostrils had tubes so she could breath.
She was now in the bathroom, after taking a long needing shower. She was getting dressed while Steve watched over Lennon. Lucas and Erica stayed with her most of the time, and they left to bring some food, giving Steve space. He had both of his hands wrapped together as his elbows rested on the bed, he letted out a puff of air, not being able to hold back tears "Come on, Lennon. Wake up." When they had realised that the last victim of Vecna had died, he and Robin had thought it was Max. And then, Nancy lost her shit. They had defeated Vecna, kinda. But, it wasn't until they came back, that they found out it wasn't Max, but Lennon. Nancy knew, and she hadn't told them. Not only her, but Eddie had also passed away, being killed by the army of bats.
At least, Lennon's heart was somehow beating. Which was a relief to all. Now, they had to wait for her to wake up, and their other friends to come back. As Nancy had promised to take care of Max, she would be staying with the Wheelers. Karen didn't have any problems when officially adopting her, as her mother had been killed by the red void many people had fallen into. Her father was nowhere to be found. So, Max was going to be living with them. Just like Lennon wanted. She wasn't ready yet, which the family understood and respected. Anyway, as many families left the now broken town, and others were trying to survive whatever was going on, the Wheelers were gathering some stuff to give to people that needed it more than them.
Steve was going to take the stuff to the High School, where it should be left at, with Robin and Dustin. But before, he had made his visit to Lennon. He had been there most of the time, and planned on continuing to do that. But Max would often tell him to leave her on her own, the same with Lucas and Erica. When Max left the bathroom, he noticed her clothes were slightly bigger than the ones she usually wore. He frowned as she played with her jacket's sleeve, realising he had seen it before in Lennon's closet. "When will you be back?" Max wondered as she took the seat next to the window, peering out so he didn't see the nervous look on her face.
"As soon as I can. Robin volunteered me at the High School. I don't know how long it will take." She nodded, only turning around when the door opened.
Nancy slowly walked in, her eyes set on her best friend. Neither of them expected her to come that early in the morning, as Steve was supposed to go to her place. She had a plate full of pancakes, her mother had prepared them knowing Max, Lucas and Erica would appreciate it. Max sat up, eyes wide, "Hi."
