In her life there were only two guys who ever loved her, one did everything for her and was always by her side while the other constantly broke her heart.
Y/n has spent the majority of her life in love with her best frie...
The morning sun bathed the city in a gentle, golden glow as a new day unfolded. After Taehyung left my room the previous evening, I spent a restless night tossing and turning, my thoughts returning to Jimin's expression when I told him I was leaving. He appeared so distraught, and I couldn't fathom why. Over the past year, I had spent a lot of time in this house with Jungkook and Taehyung, so why would my departure affect him this way? Jimin and I hardly ever communicated anymore, and we had grown apart. I believed he wanted me to leave; he always acted like he did. But after yesterday, I began to doubt my assumptions. What if Jimin truly wanted me to stay? Perhaps I had missed something all along, a secret he had kept, driving a wedge between us.
I tried to push these intrusive thoughts from my mind, reminding myself that today was meant to be a day of fun and relaxation. Jungkook and Taehyung had decided to take the day off from their entertainment company to help alleviate my stress.
I emerged from my room without bothering to change my clothes or untangle the knots in my messy hair. Descending the stairs, I found Taehyung in the kitchen, busy cooking breakfast. He greeted me with a warm smile as he noticed my presence. "Good morning, Y/n. How did you sleep?" I slumped onto a stool at the kitchen island, resting my head against the countertop. "To be honest, not very well, but the smell of the breakfast you're cooking is making me feel better." Taehyung chuckled and expertly flipped a pancake. "It's the least I can do for our guest of honor. How about some coffee?" I nodded gratefully.
As Taehyung poured a cup of coffee for me, I couldn't help but stare. His disheveled dark hair gave him a relaxed appearance, and the warmth in his dark eyes made my heart flutter. He smiled at me, placing the cup carefully in front of me, our eyes briefly locking before he returned to the other side of the kitchen to continue cooking.
Jungkook entered the kitchen shortly after, accompanied by a tired-looking Yumi. "Good morning, everyone," he greeted, planting a loving kiss on his girlfriend's cheek. I watched their affectionate interaction, reminiscing about how much I had once longed for similar gestures from Jimin.
After enjoying our breakfast we started discussing our plans for the day, Jungkook suggested visiting the neighborhood park, while Yumi enthusiastically proposed going shopping at one of the nearby malls. Taehyung didn't offer a suggestion and instead turned to me. "What would you like to do, Y/n?" I hesitated, not wanting to impose my preferences on them after all they had done for me. "I'm fine with whatever you guys want." Taehyung shook his head gently, a soft smile on his face. "Don't worry about us, Y/n. Today is all about you. We want to make sure you have a good time and take your mind off things." I felt a rush of warmth in my face as I looked at him. Jungkook and Yumi quickly concurring with his sentiment. "Actually, the park sounds really nice right now," I decided, thinking about Jungkook's earlier suggestion. "Then I guess we're going to the park," Taehyung declared with a smile. Yumi couldn't resist one last request, "Can we still go shopping after the park, please?" Jungkook let out a laugh and nodded his head to assure her, "I promise we'll take you shopping after the park." She smiled and hugged him tightly, which made Taehyung and me laugh.
After tidying up the kitchen, we prepared to go. Taehyung and I were ready first, while Jungkook and Yumi took a little longer, most likely due to their usual playfulness. Once we were all set, we headed to the park in Jungkook's car. Jungkook's melodious voice and Yumi's slightly off-key singing filling the air as Taehyung and I sit in the back, engaging in a casual conversation.
When we arrived, Jungkook parked the car, and we all disembarked. The park was relatively empty, as it was still early in the day, but the lack of people seemed to create a peaceful atmosphere, which was exactly what I needed right now. After enduring constant stress during my two years of marriage to Jimin, I yearned for a moment of tranquility.
"Y/n, are you coming?" Taehyung called out, bringing me back from my thoughts. I looked up to find everyone watching me with concerned expressions. "Are you okay?" Jungkook asked. I offered them a small smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just zoned out for a moment." "Okay then, we should get going," Taehyung says, grabbing my hand and leading me toward one of the walking paths. A slight blush coloring my cheeks as I glance down at our intertwined fingers.
I had known Taehyung since we were children, and he and Jungkook had always been inseparable. Wherever they went, I followed. So, if he was at our house, I was there, and if Jungkook was going to his house, I tagged along. Spending so much time together made me naturally comfortable with Taehyung. In the past, we'd all sleep in the same bed, and whenever we went somewhere, we would hold hands or sometimes even cuddle during movie nights. Despite these affectionate gestures, I had never thought much of it because that's how our friendship had always been. However, recently, I found myself becoming more aware of these small interactions.
"Wait for us!" Yumi called out, dragging Jungkook along and nearly causing him to topple over. We spent the next 30 minutes walking around the park, laughing at the silly jokes that Taehyung and Jungkook shared. Once Jungkook and Yumi became increasingly affectionate, Taehyung and I decided to walk ahead of them.
As we walked, we passed by children playing and couples sharing tender moments. I let out a sigh, turning my gaze away from them, determined not to let melancholic thoughts creep in. Taehyung seemed to notice and gave my hand a reassuring squeeze, redirecting my attention. "Come here," he said, nodding toward a serene spot up further ahead. He led me to a quiet bench with a view of the pond.
We sat in silence for a while, watching the ripples on the water's surface. Taehyung's voice broke the silence, speaking softly, "You know, Y/n," he says pausing. "I've known you since we were kids, and all I ever wanted was to protect you. Seeing you go through all this pain over the past two years hurts me too. I just want to make you happy." I turned to him, my eyes welling with tears, and let out a small laugh. "You've always been there for me. I can't ever repay you for everything." He smiled, reaching out to gently wipe away a tear I hadn't even noticed had escaped, and said, "You don't need to repay me, Y/n. I would do anything for you, you know that, right?"
I gazed into his dark eyes, my heart fluttering once again. His eyes searched mine, flickering to my lips and back up. He then raised his hand to cup my cheek, his thumb caressing my face gently. I leaned into his touch and closed my eyes. Suddenly, a pair of soft lips met mine in a tender kiss, surprising me for a moment before I reciprocated. As we broke apart, Taehyung looked down and ran his hand through his hair. "I'm sorry. I know you're married, even if he's the worst. I shouldn't have done that," he apologized, trying to explain himself. I let out a small laugh and shook my head at him, gently turning his face to look at me. "Tae," I said, trying to get him to meet my eyes, which he did. I gave him a soft smile. "You make me happy." His eyes widened for a moment before he pulled me into another kiss, filled with unspoken emotions. As we parted, he leaned his forehead against mine, his warm breath tickling my face. He pressed his lips against mine one more time, stealing a final, small kiss before pulling away to look at me.
He had the most radiant smile on his face as he gazed down at me with all the love one could ever desire. I returned his affection with a quick peck on the cheek before burying my beet-red face into his chest, wrapping my arms around him. All my previous worries had vanished from my mind. One thing was certain: I probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight for an entirely different reason—Kim Taehyung.
