Chapter 20: The Research For Some Answers

When Mey opened her eyes again, she found herself in a familiar place. The waves crashing along the ship and the smell of medical supplies let her know she was safely aboard the STAR. She turned to her side and smiled as she saw San sleeping on the bed next her. San. The boy she finally remembered after all this time. She mentally wanted to hit herself. She needed to know why her memories were scattered. She was told it was her sickness, but it had to be something more. Mey smiled as she reached over to San and gently stroked his arm. He almost woke up instantly to her touch and quickly sat up, making his way to her.

    "Are you alright?" He asked. Mey, who was still laying in bed, reached up and stroked the small slit in his brow before giving him a smile.

    "I've never been better." San looked down at her stroking her cheek as he searched her eyes that still gave off that sparkle he was so worried would be gone. Mey could tell he was worried and sad. "Are you alright?" San leaned on one arm to keep himself still level as he stroked Mey's cheek with his thumb grazing her jawline.

    "I feel like I failed you and your brother." Mey took her hand and wiped the strand of hair from his eyes.

    "San...."

    "I promised your brother I would protect you, and yet I find you chained to the wall and in pain. When that man began to speak of the things he did to you, I saw red; I wanted to spill his blood." San quickly rose from the bed and went over to an open port hole to get some air and let his mind clear. "I haven't changed. I'm still the same monster Yang turned me into." Mey rose from the bed and walked over to him, turning him so he would face her. She gently cupped his cheeks and stared lovingly into his eyes.

    "You were never a monster, San. Don't say that ever again. What would Hongjoong say if he heard you talking about yourself that way?" San gave a small chuckle at Mey's words.

    "Alright, you have me there." San drew himself closer, letting his arms find their way around her waist as he placed his forehead against hers as she let her hands fall to his broad shoulders. That's when she noticed her necklace around his neck and smiled to herself. "We never stopped searching. We barely slept or ate with how worried we were. When we found Seungmin, we were relieved, but also still just as scared."

    "You found us; that's all that matters." San pulled away, finally taking the necklace off and placing it around her neck.

    "I believe this belongs to you." Mey smiled as she held the pendant in her hand. "Mey, it led me to you in the cave." Mey looked up at San with a confused look in her eyes. "It was glowing." Her eyes widened as she look back down. "Mingi said it happened before." 

    "Back on the Isle of Whispers; it seemed to be leading me somewhere as well, but we had other things to do so I tried to ignore it."

    "Could it mean something?" San asked quietly. Mey looked back up at him.

    "I'll to ask Yeosang for a book or two. Maybe they will have some answers." San drew her close slinking his arms around her waist once again and giving her a small smile. 

    "Sannie...." Mey looked up at him with puppy eyes that made him melt. "Back in the cave, you called me Sannie. Wooyoung and a little girl I met years ago when I was younger only called me that." Mey gave him a soft smile.

    "I'm sorry it took me so long to remember." San leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

    "Like I told you in the cave, it wouldn't have mattered to me. I found you again, and that is what matters the most. Though, letting you go will be even harder now." Mey linked her arms around his neck.
