Steve Rogers was always known as the Captain, the ultimate soldier, but when it came to video games, he was a complete novice. It was almost laughable to think that someone who had fought in wars and led armies had no idea how to use a joystick.
That's why y/n his boyfriend and Clint Barton decided to take it upon themselves to teach Steve the art of video gaming. It started as a simple idea, a fun way to pass the time, but it quickly turned into a full-blown obsession.
"Okay, Cap, this is how you hold the controller," Clint said, demonstrating the proper grip.
Steve looked down at the controller in his hands, trying to mimic Clint's hold. "Like this?" he asked, his brow furrowed in concentration.
"Perfect," Clint said, patting Steve on the back. "Now, let's play some Mario Kart."
Y/N set up the game while Clint explained the rules to Steve. "Okay, so you pick a character, and then we race around different tracks. Whoever gets to the finish line first wins."
Steve nodded, still a bit unsure of what he was getting into. "Okay, let's do this."
As the game started, Steve's eyes widened as he watched the characters on the screen come to life. He was amazed at the graphics and the colors, never having seen anything like it before.
Clint and Y/N took off, leaving Steve in the dust. He fumbled with the controller, trying to figure out how to steer and accelerate at the same time.
"Come on, Cap, you gotta keep up!" Clint teased, his character zooming past Steve's.
Steve gritted his teeth, determined to do better. He leaned into the game, his eyes fixed on the screen. He was determined to win.
As they played, Steve slowly started to get the hang of it. He was still far from being a pro, but he was no longer crashing into walls and falling off the track.
Clint and Y/N cheered him on, giving him tips and tricks as they went. Steve felt a sense of camaraderie with them, a sense of belonging that he hadn't felt in a while.
They played for hours, switching between different games and different consoles. Steve found that he had a natural talent for some games, like shooting and fighting games, while others, like puzzle games, made him scratch his head in confusion.
But no matter what game they played, they always had fun. They laughed and joked, egging each other on and teasing each other when someone made a mistake.
As the night wore on, Steve found himself getting more and more invested in the games. He was no longer just playing for fun, but he was playing to win.
And finally, after countless rounds of different games, Steve emerged victorious in a shooting game, with Clint and Y/N cheering him on.
"Nice job, Cap!" Clint said, giving him a high-five.
Steve grinned, feeling a sense of accomplishment. He had finally found something that he was good at, something that made him feel like he belonged.
"Thanks, guys," he said, feeling grateful for their help.
Y/N grinned at him. "Anytime, Steve. We're always here to teach you the ways of the video game world."
And with that, they went back to playing, eager to see what game they could tackle next.
