3rd person pov:
"The mutant was said to be spotted here 2 hours ago." Donnie led them all to a destroyed car. "This car is all the proof you'll need, but I had to check on the web to be sure."
"It doesn't make sense, why would the mutant just suddenly start going crazy? How do we know it's even real?" Leo asked, leaning on a nearby wall.
"Yeah, it might be a mutant we already know, like Hypno or Meatsweats, or it could be Draxum or Big Mama or something, it could be a trap." Raph squatted by the car, examining it while furrowing his brow.
"I don't think Draxum or Big Mama have feet like that." Mikey pointed to a giant footprint.
"Fascinating." Donnie went over to the print and examined it closer. "It's a paw print, so it's definitely fully mammalian. There's fur left over, only a small bit and probably from shedding, it's clearly mutated since it's not any reasonable animal fur color. 4 toes, teardrop shaped, 3 bumps on the bottom and one rounded slight extension at the top, no claw marks since the claws seem to have retracted. I believe I've already identified the kind of animal this is!"
"Ohmigosh, is it Bigfoot?!" Mikey ran over and looked at the prints. "Woahhhhhhh, these feet really are big!" Donnie laughed loudly at that, then stopped when he noticed the awestruck look on Mikey's face.
"That wasn't a joke, was it?" He sighed, slightly disappointed in Mikey for assuming Bigfoot. "That's not anything like the footprint of bipedal animal, Mikey, please be reasonable. It's feline based on the shape and since it's so large with key identification features, I believe it's the tracks of a Panthera Leo."
"What about me now?" Leo looked over, having not been paying attention to a single word Donnie was saying.
"No, not you!" Donnie facepalmed. "Panthera Leo, the scientific name of a lion."
"Why didn't you just say it's the footprints of a lion then?" Raph directed his attention towards Donnie. "Lion tracks, it ain't that hard to say, it's two syllables. I said everything you said but in two words."
"Yes Raph, the oversimplification of my interests and explanations seems to be what makes your day, so let's just go with that." Donnie rolled his eyes. "The tracks don't extend very far, we're in New York city after all. The roads make it practically impossible to get good tracks most of the time."
"How do we find it then?" Mikey sat down beside the lion tracks and looked at them. "I'll come back to draw you later, by the way." he spoke like the tracks would understand him and be honored.
"Well that I know!" Leo walked over. "We obviously gotta split up, we pick different things we gotta do to make this whole thing work. Donnie, you're the only guy I know that can figure out where this thing went. Raph, you gotta carry a trap of some kind, I'll figure out what that trap is. It's gotta be heavy if it's gonna catch a giant mutant lion. Mikey, you gotta be bait to lure the mutant into the trap."
"Him being bait doesn't sound safe, Leo." Raph didn't like the idea of Mikey being lion food if anything went wrong.
"It doesn't exactly scream caution for me personally." Donnie somewhat agreed, preferring to have his younger brother alive. "I'd rather him design better bait, he seems to know what he's doing when it comes to that sort of thing now. I'd do it on my own since I'm the smart one who's perfect in every way, but unfortunately I'll be busy doing the most important part of this." he decided to be dramatically confident just to get a reaction out of them. It worked and Leo shook his head in disappointment.
"Sure, we'll go with that idea. But not because it's Donnie's idea, but because Mikey finally gets to do something creative for our missions!" Leo wanted to avoid feeding into Donnie's ego or agreeing with him on anything.
