Scientist's pov:

The mutant was put back in its room after a lot of research, it seemed to be exhausted and in a bad mood without much happening to cause that. A research team met up in the hall close to the mutant's room to talk about their findings. "It's not sentient, there's no way. Its primitive behavior is at best childlike, it seems to be repeating ideas it has heard from something or someone else." A scientist started their meeting without even beginning with any usual pleasantries, making another scientist sigh from frustration.

"We might not be the first scientists it's been in contact with. Plus, all of the human tendencies it's picked up must be adding to it. Perhaps it was some kind of scientific experiment?" Another scientist proposed. "A secret experiment from a scientist that preferred to work alone maybe? It would explain why its actions seem to be inconsistent with the things it says. It doesn't seem to believe much of what it says, I think it's repeating what it's heard."

"It speaks positively of research in anything it writes, yet it seems to despise us." The first scientist nodded slowly. "It must've been taught to act like a person, maybe something to keep its creator company?"

"That must be it." A third scientist smiled slightly for a few seconds before getting back to the topic. "It was talking for a short while, but after getting started on work and finding out what it needed to do, it seemed to go back to its previous state of silence. It even refused to communicate at one point."

"It's refusing to eat anything I bring as well." The second scientist sighed. "It seems it's naturally stubborn but speaks positively of cooperation. It was likely taught to cooperate but only cooperates verbally or in written form."

"Its creator must've gotten disappointed with it and thrown it out." The first scientist suggested. "I wouldn't be surprised. With all of the younger scientists, they always get impatient far too quickly and throw out anything they've been working on that isn't making progress as quickly as they would like."

"Well, what do we do then?" The third scientist asked. "If it refuses to cooperate and it's probably under the impression that we'll just let it go once we get impatient, it's probably going to take way longer than we can afford."

"It hated the experiment where we put it in a new location, so how about every time it misbehaves, we put it in there?" The second scientist suggested.

"This is why you're on the team." The first scientist smiled. "It seems to understand more basic subjects when we speak to it, so I'll explain the new rule to it."

"Don't lose your patience with it." The second scientist warned. "If you lose your cool with it, it might try to run away or attack you."

"Even if it were to try, it wouldn't be able to." The first scientist rolled their eyes, folding their arms. "And if it tries to attack me, we'll lower it into the room."

"Fine, just try not to lose your patience." The second scientist sighed, watching the first scientist go into the room.

"Hello, uh... Donnie." The first scientist didn't believe that was even the mutant's name, but they used it anyways. The mutant turned from staring at a random spot in the wall and looked at the scientist, already looking irritated and unhappy to see the scientist. "I have a deal for you. Every time you misbehave, we send you into the room with the plants. You remember that room, don't you?" The mutant glared at the scientist, then nodded while folding its arms. "Well, if you don't do what you're told, you'll go back into that room. Got it?" The mutant nodded again, sighing from frustration. "Good." the scientist left the room again. "We shouldn't have to use that for a while, but if its attitude continues being like this, I won't be working with it anymore. It's acting like a moody teenager."
