Mikey's pov:

It had been an hour and we still hadn't gotten a text from Donnie at all, nothing. He surely would've found something by then, right? He was very smart, he knew what he was doing, and yet we hadn't heard from him. The trap was ready, we just needed to know where to bring it, I even knew what to use as bait, but nothing from Donnie. I was getting worried, but Leo didn't look too worried. Raph was more impatient than anything, pacing around while looking at the time on his phone every 30 seconds. They let another 10 minutes pass before I finally got impatient, I didn't want to wait for them to decide that something was wrong. "Guys, Donnie would've told us something by now, he's never this late and he always sends at least something calling us dumb or something just to let us know he's okay." I hugged them both anxiously, I needed the reassurance. "We gotta go look for him! He could be hurt!"

"Relax, this is Donnie we're talking about. He probably got distracted by some kind of science thing." Leo shrugged it off like our brother wasn't missing in action. "He'll probably come back forgetting we even had a mission, maybe he started talking about random nerd stuff to people he thought were smart enough for him or something."

"No, Mikey's got a point..." Raph looked at me, I was thankful he was taking me seriously. "Donnie was really interested in this mission, he always focuses a lot during missions he's excited about. Something's gotta be wrong, I texted him already and he always replies. I thought he might've been goofing off for a while, but Mikey's right. We gotta go find him, at least just in case." he took a deep breath.

"But where do we even look?" Leo folded his arms. "Like he said, it's hard to find tracks of people in New York, we might not even find anything of his anywhere!"

"Leave this to me!" I started following where my gut was telling me to go, I wasn't the youngest for nothing. Unlike everyone else, I still trusted my instincts and knew what I was doing, I knew what I was talking about. "First we need to go back to the spot this all started: the footprint. Donnie might've gotten some dirt or mud or something on his feet, that could've put tracks on the road or sidewalk he was on."

"Good thinking, Mikey!" Raph patted my head, it was nice to have them recognize me for doing something smart. I got to the footprint and saw Donnie left a few footprints too, they followed the direction the mutant's prints went.

"Now we follow this direction and see if it brings us anywhere helpful!" I knew that I was doing something right, I could practically hear Donnie telling me that I was doing it right this time. He'd probably say something like "took you long enough", but that wasn't the point. I followed the straight line, I saw a bit of fur on the ground in a different place after using the flashlight on my phone to see it. "Now we go this way, Donnie would've followed this fur that way!" I pointed.

"Why're we following random hair?" Leo sighed. "I mean, I get it, we're bald, no hair gang, but like, we're not that desperate."

"Says the guy who sometimes steals wigs just to try to be a prettyboy." Raph laughed. "And it's not about putting the hair on us, Mikey says Donnie would've followed it."

"First he wants eyebrows, now he wants hair, what's next, a nose? Ears?" Leo decided that it was a good time to joke about our missing brother, but I wasn't having it.

"Leo, now's really not the time." I was too worried to let him distract me. "Just let me focus so I don't accidentally lead us somewhere random."

"Jeez, okayyy, I'm sorryyyyy." Leo huffed, then followed me silently. It took a while to follow the trail completely, but once I figured out what Donnie followed, I didn't find it too hard to track it down as well. The first thing I saw was his broken battle shell, left uselessly on the ground. It had long claw marks slashing through it, any energy it had left was sparking out.
