Donnie's pov:

It was stupid of me to think I could handle it on my own, wasn't it? I could've requested assistance, I could've had Mikey join me in order to avoid being isolated, but instead of being reasonable, I decided to go on my own. Because of my overconfidence, I put myself in danger and now I was being reminded of the fact that my confidence was misplaced. It was no wonder why I was constantly having to call for help while in battle, I just wasn't cautious. For an average person my age, it was normal, but I was anything but average. I was a mutated turtle, mad scientist, evil genius, teen prodigy, and much more. It should've been easy for me to take down that mutant, I was failing at the thing I claimed to be superior at, it was an utter embarrassment. How was I supposed to tell them that I'd encountered the mutant and failed miserably, losing all of my tech, getting my battle shell severely damaged, getting injured and almost killed, and leaving myself completely vulnerable to a second attack? They'd likely be so disappointed in me... But that wasn't what I was supposed to be focused on, I was supposed to get back to the lair, back to safety, and then update them through my computer. That was easier said than done while so vulnerable, every sound put me more on edge, every shadow was a threat waiting to strike. Of course, it was just me being irrational, but fear isn't easily persuaded by logic.

No matter the case, I was on my way back home, so there was nothing else for me to do. I just kept walking, there was nothing for me to worry about. But as I continued moving, it sounded like there was something behind me, slowly moving along with me. That couldn't be right, I knew that the mutant couldn't have followed me, I checked to be completely sure, so what was following me? I quickened the pace a bit, just to be sure that it was really following me, and of course the sound just had to speed up as well. It was anything but smart to try to fight it and it was risky to assume there was nothing there or let it know that I was aware of its presence, so I had to come up with a different plan. In a moment of poor planning and little to no forethought, I raced into a different alley. Why I had done that, I would never know. There was a small box that looked safe enough for the moment, sturdy inner walls and a small space made it a good hiding spot for someone like me. Sure, I wasn't the smallest, but the mutant wouldn't be able to fit and the walls didn't look like they'd break, it was my best bet to avoid being turned into roadkill. I'd have to drop my pride and forget all about how incredibly uncomfortable and likely idiotic it was going to be and just go in. I took a deep breath, then got into the box.

Then there was a click and the sound of something similar to an animal cage door closing. I turned around in the box and noticed I'd been caged in, it was a trap and I'd fallen for it like a pathetic animal. My first thought was to try to escape, so I tried to use my legs to push against the cage door and force it open, but it wouldn't budge. The space was far too cramped for me to stretch out enough for that to be effective. How did I of all of the possible mutants fall for such a primitive trap? Was I just becoming stupid? No, that couldn't have been it, I was still a genius, I'd just been in danger and did what I thought would protect me since my shell was exposed. I heard footsteps and thought it was likely Raph, Mikey, and Leo, so I tried to call out to them. It felt like my voice wouldn't come out though, like it was as trapped as I was. I was seriously going nonverbal at that moment? That was the worst possible time so far that this had happened during. I was somewhat glad I hadn't called out for help since it wasn't them, it was a group of scientists that seemed to already know of my capture. They were wearing uniforms that covered most of their features, but they were clearly human.

Scientists' pov (third person):

The trap had been set off, the team of scientists had gotten a notification alerting them to it and were glad they hadn't been on nightshift for nothing. A few of them stayed behind to continue whatever they'd been working on while waiting, but the rest quickly made their way to the trap. The sound of the bars rattling for a moment made them excited, they hoped to be discovering something new. That was why they'd come to New York anyways, to learn something about the new occurrence of mutants caused by some unidentified insect. The rattling stopped, then it sounded like something hit the cage door with a lot of force and pressed against it. Whatever was inside was desperate to get out, but it wasn't going to. When it realized its failure, it gave up and stopped moving. The leader of the team went first and peeked inside, keeping a safe distance between themself and the cage. It was a strange humanoid turtle dressed with a few items that were strange to look at. A purple mask covering the entire top half of its face with eyebrows drawn on, elbow and kneepads, fingerless gloves with only three fingers since the mutant only had that many, and some form of toeless sock perhaps, that seemed more decorative than anything.
