Donnie's pov:
I thought for a single moment that I'd found a way out, but I was mistaken. It was a tiny hole, but I certainly couldn't open it any wider and there was no way I'd fit. I looked through it anyways, hoping to see anything noteworthy, but all I saw was a hallway, lit by fluorescent bulbs like everything else in the building. I could barely make out the figures of two different scientists. I couldn't recognize them on appearance since their features were mostly covered, but since they were heading this way, I'd hear their voices anyways. "It's only 14 years of age at the moment, it seems to grow at the rate a human would. Many of its functions mimic human functions in fact." One scientist talked about me. It seemed I'd be getting a VIP seat to watch the drama that I never wanted or asked for.
"He's so young, awwwwww!" My favorite scientist's voice was easily recognizable, it stood out against the rest since it was more like a squeaky, excited child's than a mature adult's. "Well, what else do we know about him from the blood tests?" It was strange that they were so curious about me, the attention felt off, especially since they were all adults. The only reason they weren't ignoring me was because it was their job, most likely. If they weren't required to care for me, I'd likely have been left alone almost immediately. It wasn't something that bothered me though, it was more like a way to get people to leave me alone.
"Its species is spiny softshell, it has no relevant allergies, and it seems malnourished and poorly rested." The scientist, for some unknown reason, must've felt the need to call me out. Just because I'd been working on a big project and forgot to eat and sleep didn't mean they could just pick apart my habits. Then again, since when did I have any control over the situation? "We have no idea how fragile its current state is, so it will need frequent monitoring. I trust you can handle this since it seems more adjusted to you?"
"I'd love to take care of him!" My favorite scientist was very enthusiastic about that, I was glad that it was at least someone who didn't seem like anything more than an overgrown child rather than the unnerving scientists that had been more bothersome. "I know quite a bit about him now too! It's weird though, he's a kind of softshell and yet he doesn't like water." That wasn't true. It was still just the fact that I felt like I'd been being boiled alive.
"Really? That's quite interesting, I think that should be observed more carefully at some point." The other scientist took down some notes, then walked off after saying something I couldn't quite understand. The halls echoed too much for me to hear things from farther away properly. It started to smell odd the closer my favorite scientist came, it was like the smell of sushi that had been left out just a bit too long. It wasn't ideal in any way, shape, or form. I covered my nose to avoid smelling it, it was terrible. I was barely able to find normal kinds of sushi that I could actually eat, that smell definitely didn't say edible whatsoever. The scientist walked in with a metal bowl, almost identical to the water bowl that was already inside. They sat it close to me and stepped away carefully, either they were worried that I was going to get aggressive or they didn't want to scare me. Knowing this scientist, they were probably worried about me, especially since they were still in the protective uniform. I didn't like the smell of it at all, it was terrible.
"Come on over here, buddy, it's okay. The food's safe, you can have all of this for yourself!" They sounded way too happy, like they'd offered me ice cream instead of whatever was in the bowl. I supposed it couldn't hurt to look inside, but I was completely wrong. It was worse than I thought was even possible for someone to attempt to feed me. It looked like random kinds of fish and bugs mashed together and mixed up into some horrifying, raw, slightly spoiled mess in a bowl. It looked like the world's worst tuna salad, either that or the remains of a shark's stomach bug. I felt sick just looking at it, the look was somehow worse than the smell and I had to move away in order to keep my sanity... and the contents of my stomach still inside of me. "Please? It's good for you to eat something, it'll make you feel better." They seemed to slowly come to the realization that I'd rather literally starve to death than eat that. I wasn't going to do something just because they wanted me to. They kidnapped me, held me against my will, made me feel like less than a person, and boiled me in painfully hot water. I didn't care what they wanted, just like they didn't care about what I wanted.
