How He Saw It

Donnie's pov:

One of the scientists was clearly in charge, they took the lead and stared at me for quite a while, looking at every single inch of me. It made me extremely uncomfortable, they were likely judging me. I didn't look them in the eyes, I didn't have to and I didn't want to. "Now this is interesting." The scientist's eyebrows slightly raised. "Come look at this, it looks like it's been kept as a pet or something." Pet?! I was no pet, I was a person and I took care of myself! I was extremely offended by that, but I still couldn't bring myself to speak. The other scientists stepped forward to stare at me, their eyes prying into every detail of my anatomy.

"This is incredible!" A scientist spoke with enthusiasm. At least someone was happy with the situation, I sure wasn't. We've never seen an animal evolve like this, especially from mutation and so quickly! What species did it originate from? Are there more like it? How would it create more like it? What is its sex?" They were far too curious about me. Why would they ever need to know how I reproduce? Like I'd ever end up doing that anyways, disgusting. Why did they want to know so much about me? It was disturbing to hear them speak about me like an animal, it was almost sickening.

"Calm yourself, we'll get all the answers later once we've gotten it back to the lab." The leader went to one end of the cage and started lifting it, throwing off my balance. I couldn't see them after that, but another went eagerly to the other side, lifting it. They weren't being careful, it shook me around on the inside like cargo. I pressed my arms and legs out against the sides of the trap to steady myself, I wasn't aiming to be a softshell maraca.

"Heh, sex." One scientist was being immature, even people as supposedly professional as scientists were capable of being morons apparently. And out of all of the stupid things to joke about, of course it was something so disgusting.

"Gender, stupid, its gender." I could hear the other scientist facepalm, doing what I myself couldn't do. I somewhat appreciated the fact that they were addressing the stupidity, but being trapped in such a small space for so long was starting to bother me. I couldn't stretch out, everything was too loud without my headphones, which were connected to the goggles I'd left behind, and they were taking me somewhere that I didn't know. I felt my breathing quicken, I wasn't about to panic, was I? I couldn't afford to panic in front of these people, there was no way that they were going to be understanding of my emotions when they didn't seem to think I had any. One of the scientists moved over to the door and looked through.

"Don't worry, we're getting you somewhere safe and comfortable, we're nothing to fear." They spoke softly and leaned a bit closer, but I didn't particularly like that they were lying right to my face. They had the audacity to think I'd believe that they cared about how I felt.

"I believe you're wasting your time speaking with it, it doesn't seem to respond to communication. It's humanoid, but I believe it just mutated to look that way. Intelligence doesn't just come from one line of genetics, that kind of evolution takes thousands of years and is too complex to just mutate into existence." The leader's voice rang clear, proving they didn't see me as a sentient being. They approached a van and I knew that things weren't going to go well for my chances of escape. Going to a second location with a kidnapper significantly reduced your chances of being found and I knew it, I'd done enough research to know that I was about to be much more difficult to find. It hadn't even been an hour yet, so no one was going to be looking for me for a while. The longer they waited, the less likely it'd be for them to even find clues, any signs of my presence could be washed away by rain or cleared by the scientists if they didn't want the general public to know about mutants.

"Well, animals respond well to reassurance too." The scientist that was probably trying to trick me into trusting them protested. "And it looks scared. Wouldn't you be scared if something trapped you and you didn't know how and then these random animals that made funny sounds took you into a strange box thingy?" I understood exactly what they were talking about, I wasn't stupid, I wasn't an animal. I knew I was being kidnapped and taken to a laboratory that wasn't my own by scientists who were going to test me somehow. And I wasn't scared, I was just aware of what was waiting for me. They were going to see how vulnerable I was and then they'd take full advantage of it, I knew they would.
