Donnie's pov:
My favorite scientist wouldn't let me go no matter how much I squirmed and tried to get free, they didn't seem to care. They seemed to be in charge of keeping me still while the others evaluated me, first taking my temperature by forcing my mouth open and sticking the thermometer under my tongue forcefully. That hurt a bit, but since I fought a lot, I could take more than that without complaint. My favorite scientist wasn't happy with that though. "Hey, be careful with it! It's already hurt and we shouldn't do any worse to it!" They held me a bit closer, pushing a bit of air out of my lungs.
"Well we're not the ones crushing it right now, it looks like it's in pain from that." Another scientist got sassy.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, little bean!" Their grip loosened, allowing me to breathe properly again. I still wasn't little or a bean, but if it kept me from being crushed and kept the scientist not letting the others treat me poorly, I wasn't about to complain. The scientists pulled out a needle, it was empty, so they were likely taking a blood sample. I didn't like the idea, so I instinctively struggled, but it was no use. They obtained their blood sample from me, then one left with it, taking it to a different room. "You're doing so well, little one, you're very well behaved." Yeah right, I was still fighting against everything like a wild animal, not even talking to them. It was pathetic really, making myself look like a fool. Next, they put a stethoscope to my chest, it was cold and slightly uncomfortable, so I shuddered. I wasn't disturbed by them for the most part, it was just irritating that I wasn't in control of anything I was having to experience. If I had the slightest amount of control, I might've been a bit more comfortable.
"Can you keep it still while we check its sex?" Another scientist requested, shocking me with the information. That was going to be the most awkward thing ever, I wasn't sure I was comfortable whatsoever at that point.
"Turtles like this one have indicators on their shells and faces, so this shouldn't be too difficult." Another added, giving me the most relief I'd ever experienced in my entire life.
"Of course, that's no problem at all." My favorite scientist held me a bit closer and kept me still, I wasn't exactly comfortable but it wasn't like I had any choice other than to stay there and try to ignore it. It still felt incredibly dehumanizing to be treated that way. The scientists pulled my mask off and removed any other things I'd kept on me, that especially didn't help me to feel like a person. They observed me for a while, then took some notes.
"Male." One scientist didn't even try to refer to me in any other way. "We can now call it a he if we so desire."
"That feels like a waste of time, so I'll just stick with calling it an it. It's difficult to remember what to call each and every test subject and though this is our first mutant, it doesn't change anything." A scientist folded their arms and rolled their eyes, that information hurt a bit more than the other things I'd been learning that day, they wouldn't even call me a he or attempt to view me as a possibly sentient being. I didn't know how much more of listening to them talk I could take.
"Well I'm going to call him a boy, he could be my son bean." My favorite scientist smiled at me, it was actually somewhat comforting for once to see that.
"Don't get too attached or we'll have to change your assignment. You know the rules, interfering with too much attention or affection could change the outcome of different studies and experiments." The leader didn't give me an opportunity to trust the moment, they just went ahead and shattered the one thing I could put up with.
"I know... I just couldn't help it for a moment. I won't interfere too much, don't worry." My favorite scientist spoke softly. Somehow, I felt a bit betrayed, I didn't know why. I should've known that no one in the lab could care about me, it was stupid to even consider. The scientists then started pointing a flashlight in my eyes, which stung. I closed my eyes, but they were forced open. I knew why they were doing that, but that knowledge didn't make it hurt any less.
