(The image in the chapter is a representation of what Meg would look like)
Once I agreed to join Meg, she went to an exit and I followed her. We ran through that cabin together until we got to that hole in the ground she mentioned and we jumped into it. The hole wasn't deep and it ended on the ground under the house, so we could stealthily sneak outside.
Since there weren't any soldiers there, we got out from under the house and looked around carefully. I don't know how, but apparently they still haven't come up with the idea of going around the house. Taking the opportunity, Meg looked at me and gave me some information.
Meg: - Look, I didn't come alone. There's a getaway car on a street beyond these woods and my partner is waiting for me there. I can take you to a shelter far from here if you want, but we'll have to run to the car first. Are you in?
Hannah: - Anywhere will do. Just help me get out of here.
Meg: - Right. Come with me.
Then we went into the forest and through the trees. When I looked back to see if anyone was following us, I saw some soldiers going to that hole to check if I was still inside the cabin. Good thing we got out in time.
As soon as we started running through those bushes, two GRE soldiers suddenly appeared ahead and took aim at us. It took Meg a while to notice them and she probably wouldn't be able to dodge the tranquilizer darts, so I had to do something about it.
Hannah: - Look out!
On instinct, I got in front of her and took the shots for her. I took two tranquilizer darts in the stomach and one in the chest. It hurt a little, but it wasn't enough to knock me down.
Meg: - Dammit! No!
Then one of the soldiers put his gun down and spoke into his radio. Both were from the GRE and had blue vests, but their uniforms were different and they looked like they belonged to another team.
???: - Captain, this is Sergeant Liam from Bravo Team! I shot the target and she was hit! I repeat! The target has been hit!
Captain: - Shit! I knew she had left this cabin! How many darts did you shoot, soldier?!
Liam: - I shot two darts and Corporal Oliver shot one. Why?
Captain: - Then shoot more! That's not enough! She has special abilities and doesn't go down easily!
Liam: - How so, sir?
Captain: - Look at her! Is she still up? If she is, it didn't work! Believe me, we shot several darts and none managed to knock her down! You guys have to shoot more than five for her to pass out!
As soon as I got those tranquilizer darts out of my skin and dropped them on the ground, both Meg and the soldiers were surprised by what they saw. It must have been the first time they had seen someone not pass out from this and I would have been extremely shocked too if I had seen someone do this in front of me.
Meg: - What the hell?! Are you ok?! How did you not-
Hannah: - Long story! I'll explain later! Keep running!
Then Meg and I ran away from there. The soldiers raised their guns and chased us. We ran uphill in the woods and I helped Meg push a huge rock towards the soldiers. It wouldn't stop them, but it would definitely slow them down.
Meg: - Come on! Just a little more! We're almost there!
After passing through all those bushes and leaves from trees hitting our faces, we left the forest and got to a street. Near the sidewalk there was a convertible car parked and a boy in the driver's seat. He had straight black hair and his bangs were parted. For some reason, he reminds me a lot of a character from an anime about titans that I saw in a magazine from an abandoned store a few months ago. It must be a coincidence.
