As soon as I got in the elevator holding hands with Luna, she kept looking at me as we went up to the next floor.
Hannah: - What's the matter?
Luna: - Are you really Hannah Vegas?
Hannah: - You don't believe I am?
Luna: - You're taller than I thought. And beautiful.
Hannah: - I could say the same for you. Except for the part about you being tall.
Luna: - How do you do all those things? Aren't you afraid to go outside at night?
Hannah: - I can get by on my own. I have special abilities that help me do many things.
Luna: - Can I have them too? Can I be a super heroine like you?
Hannah: - You don't need special abilities to be a super heroine. Just be yourself.
Luna: - Really?
Hannah: - Really. But please, keep thinking that going outside at night is dangerous. You're still very young and have a lot to learn.
Luna: - Do you think that one day I'll be as skilled as you?
Hannah: - You're gonna be more than me. Obviously it's not easy, but if you practice enough when the time comes, you'll do it. Just wait a few years first.
Luna: - How many?
Hannah: - About fifteen. Maybe twenty.
Then the elevator door opened and we reached the next floor. I left holding hands with Luna and looked for her room.
Hannah: - Your mother said your room is on the second door, right?
Luna: - Yes. Come with me. - She said while pulling my arm. - I'll show you what it's like.
As soon as Luna took me to the door and opened it, I saw a room with some office supplies and some closed doors on the right. I think they were private office rooms before the outbreak.
On the left were some windows and near the last one was a bed with a mattress. The mattress was big enough for two people. For a kid surviving an apocalypse of carnivorous monsters, this girl is living well.
Hannah: - Wow. Are we in the right place? Is this really your room?
Luna: - Yes. It's a little messy because mommy said it used to be an office, but it's comfortable.
Hannah: - Damn. Even if you're sick, at least you don't struggle to find a comfortable place.
Luna: - You never had a room?
Hannah: - Not like this one. I've never slept in such a fancy place. All this is luxury for me.
Luna: - Mommy said I could have this room, so I took it without a second thought. This building wasn't ours before the monsters invaded our world. Actually, it was abandoned when we arrived.
Hannah: - I figured. If your mother was once a GRE scientist, you both probably lived in California.
Luna: - She's still a scientist. We came here because she said she needed a break from work. But she didn't say when we're going back. I miss daddy.
Wait a minute. Did she just say that Lynn is still a scientist? And that they'll go back to the laboratory one day? And since when does anyone take time off work to travel to another state in the middle of a zombie apocalypse? Something is not quite right about all this.
