Everyone is looking for skull rock, Dustin, Steve and Lucas are together at the front leading the pack messing around with Dustin's compass, Robin and Nancy were behind them, max and y/n following.

"Hey uh is everything okay?" Max asks.
Y/n is looking at the ground.

"Oh yeah, I was just thinking" y/n responds.

"What about?" Max questions.

"It seems that vecna is only going after people who have something-"

"hurting them... haunting them" max said looking away.

"I should of been there for you max, I was just so caught up in everything" y/n says apologetically.

"I shouldn't of made my self disappear" max replies.

"Well I should of looked harder... but I see you now max, i see you. All though I didn't know Chrissy,Fred or Patrick I did know you...I do know you" y/n and max both stop and stare into each others eyes.

"Let's agree not to keep anything from each other again.. okay?" Max asks.

"Yeah, I agree Maxine" y/n responds teasing her slightly. Max lets out a small laugh.

"Hey I thought you knew me?" Max
questioned

"I do"

"Then you know damn well not to call me Maxine" max and y/n both laugh as the catch up with the group.

"Dustin you know skull rock is like a super popular make out spot right?" Steve asks.

"Yeah..why?" Dustin asks confused.

"Well guess who made that make out spot popular? Me." Steve points to himself proudly while Dustin looks disgusted.

"Gross" y/n says in disgust.

"You won't think it's gross one day when you kiss maxie maxie" Steve teases y/n

"Steve seriously." Y/n wines "gross."

"I'm gross am I?" Max teases.

"No no no! your not gross... kissing is... Steve you know how he is...but no your not gross what I didn't mean-" y/n says trying to get out of the hole she dug herself.

"Relax I'm just messing with you" max and y/n both laugh as they walk towards skull rock where they met Eddie.

The group figures out there is a gate somewhere around here if they follow the compass. They make it to lovers lake.

"There's a gate in lovers lake?" Max asks.

"Let's find out." Eddie says getting into the boat.

Dustin tries to follow Eddie into the boat.

"Sorry Dustin this boat carries 3 people tops." Eddie says.

"Well what do you want me to do huh it's my theory?" Dustin responds.

"Just stay here with Lucas, y/n and max okay?" Nancy replies.

"Who put her in charge? Dustin asks.

"I did now stay here and keep a look out." Robin says. Steve starts to push the boat and quickly jumps in.

"HEY YOU SAID 3 PEOPLE!" Dustin said annoyed.

"Sorry" Steve whispers, clearly unapologetic.

"Bedtime at 9 kiddos" Robin shouts from the now moving boat. Dustin flips her off and max stands there crossing her arms, Lucas coping y/n just standing there bored already.

"Miss you already" robin shouts again now further afloat.

The group sits down on a rock watching the 4 older get further away from shore. Dustin gets his binoculars out of his bag to get a closer look Lucas asks to borrow them to keep an eye out.

"Woah woah wait they're stopping." Lucas observed.

"Guys what's going on, come on guys talk to me what's going on" Dustin asks though his walkie

"Dustin your compass has gone from wonky to wonky with a capital ahhhh" robin responds. Steve starts taking his shoes and socks off.

"Woah Steve what are you doing?" Nancy asks.

"Well someone's gotta to down there and check this thing out unless one of you three can top being a Hawkins high swim co captain and a certified life guard for 3 years then it's gotta be me no complaints, alright. " Steve says still undressing.

"Hey I'm not complaining I do not wanna go down there" Eddie says emptying his pockets. Steve takes his shirt off and Nancy can't keep her eyes off him. Robin stares at Nancy with a smile on her face.

"Ugh when Steve get so hairy?" Lucas asks still looking through the binoculars.

"Right I keep telling him he needs to tame that jungle but apparently the ladies dig it" Dustin explains.

"Gross" y/n says with a disgust look on her face.

"Let me see" max says taking the binoculars from Lucas. Max stares at Steve for a good 10 seconds at least proving Steve's theory to be true. Y/n and Lucas keep looking at her with disgust.

"Max" y/n calls out.

"Oh yeah sorry" max says putting the binoculars down. The other 3 teens with sour looks on their faces. Eddie hands Steve a flashlight and then tries lighting a cigarette which Robin throws into the lake .

"Gross" she states.

"Steve....be careful" Nancy said to Steve with a warm smile. Steve shoots a smile back and then dives into the lake.

"You guys realise If there's a gate down there it's technically a water gate" Dustin says proudly looking for a reaction. An owl hoots in the distance and the 3 teens just stare at him.

"Watergate!" Dustin giggles to himself the teens turn back around and continue to watch on.

"Come on Steve come on" Dustin mumbles to himself. Suddenly they hear the sound of radio chatter and see flashlights in the distance closing in on them. They hear a faint voice in the background.

"Down near the water!" An officer directs the search.

"Shit" y/n exclaims as the group ducks down seeing the officers flashlights hit the water.

"Dustin you are god damn Einstein" robin praises over the walkie. Everyone turns to Dustin trying to get him to turn it off as the sound of police sirens closes in on them.

"Shit,shit,shit" Dustin whispers.

"We can't let them find Eddie" Lucas whispers back.

"Just follow my lead okay?" Max says getting up.

"HEY OFFICERS FOLLOW ME I FOUND THE KILLER THIS WAY!" Max shouts waving her arms.

"MAX WHAT ARE YOU DOING ARE YOU CRAZY?" y/n asks still trying to be quiet but now panicking. As all of this is happening Steve starts getting sucked into the upside down through the water gate.

"STOP GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE RATS" an officer shouts running after the kids. Nancy jumps in the water after Steve as the teens are trying to lead the officers away from Eddie as much as possible before getting caught. Dustin falls over slowing down the group and eventually gets caught by an officer. Robin sits on the edge of the boat looking to dive into the water after Nancy and Steve.

"Hey hey what are you doing nancys in charge here!" Eddie asks frantically.

"I just made that shit up" robin says while plunging into the lake.

"God damn it, son of a bitch!!! This is so stupid this is so stupid" Eddie says to himself before jumping into the water. The boat now floats empty amongst the heavy fog. Steve gets up from being tangled in the vines to a creature scrawling at him in the distance getting closer and closer. The creatures start coming from all directions cornering Steve with no where to go shrieking louder and louder. One flies down and tries to attack Steve but he hits it with an ore. Eventually Steve falls to the ground getting strangled by the vines and the bats start flying down and digging their sharp teeth into his exposed skin making him flinch and scream in pain.
