As y/n entered the hospital she hugged the bouquet of flowers, pulling them towards her chest. This isn't the first time she had visited max, in fact it was day 164 since she slipped into a coma. Y/n was the only person that visited every day. Her mom had stopped visiting, stopped caring. Max's mom was usually sleeping or too drunk to function. Hawkins memorial hospital was full to the brim with patients. Although the masses had calmed down since that day, it was still busy with family's grieving. Y/n walked towards the receptionists desk with a faint smile on her face. Y/n didn't recognise this receptionist it was almost a different person every day due to all the volunteers.
"Hello miss how can I help?" The receptionist asked.
"Yep I'm here to see max mayfield" y/n replied.
"Doesn't look like we have a max mayfield sorry" he answered.
"Maxine mayfield?" Y/n asked now getting worried.
"Ah yes sorry I'm a bit new too all this what is you name?" He said getting out a visitors sticker and a pen.
"Y/n" the man rights down her name and hands her the name tag.
"Our elevator isn't working today so you'll have to use the stairs is that okay, she's in room 104?" He asked.
"Yeah fine, thanks" y/n said smiling. As she walked away she remembered Max's room was on the 4th floor. Y/n started walking up the stairs still holding the bouquet close to her. Normally people would complain about waking up so many flights of stairs but she'd do anything to see max again. Once she got to the right floor she pushed the door open and started walking towards Max's room. Room 104. Y/n could walk the route to Max's room with her eyes closed at this point. Once she got to room 104 she knocked on the door hoping to hear a 'come in' from the redhead, but nothing. She closed the door behind her and walked over to Max's bed.
"Hey max... it's me... y/n.. again." Y/n said standing over max smiling. She placed the flowers down on the small table next to Max's bed and then took the dead flowers out of the vase, replacing them with the new, fresh ones. Y/n sat down next to max just looking at her.
"Me and will we're going to see a new movie today it's suppose to be good...I wish you could come I think you'd like it. I brought you the latest issue of Wonder Woman I picked it up on my way here. Im still having nightmares... from that night."
Y/n tried to hold back her tears but they always slipped. She reached into her pocket and pulled out an envelope. Inside was a letter she wrote for max.
"Dear max
Every since that day I haven't stopped thinking about you. Every time I close my eyes I see you.. i see us. I wish things would just go back to how they were. I miss you. I miss having sleepovers, I miss you teaching me how to skate even though I'd fall off every time. Sometimes I'd fall off on purpose, just so you could look after me. I miss your stupid sarcastic comments. I miss us.
I think about that day all the time. What if I had just fought Jason off fasted or blocked the door or moved the walkman, or waited for vecna to get me instead. The worst part is you died in my arms and you couldn't even feel me.. or see me. I was supposed to protect you and I couldn't even do that. Il never give up on you max. I really hope you wake up... if not I'm afraid of what il do to myself. I'm sorry max. I'm so sorry. You didn't even get to hear me say I love you before... before you died. But I do. I do love you max and I always will no matter what.
Love from y/n. "
She wiped her tears and put the now damp letter back in the envelope and placed it next to the vase of flowers on Max's night stand. Y/n curled up on the chair next to Max's bed and stroked her head until she fell asleep. While she was sleeping y/n had another nightmare. One of max. Where she died again in her arms. She woke up in a cold sweat and heard a knock at the door.
"Hello I'm sorry but visiting times are over" the lady said.
"Please can I stay longer?" Y/n asked
"I understand what your going through but visiting time is over" the nurse added.
"No."
"No?" The lady questioned.
"You don't understand" y/n said, her eyes filled with rage.
"I do, let's go" she said.
"No. Max... we're closer than best friends and.. she died in my arms I held her as her heart stopped beating... so NO YOU DONT KNOW WHATS ITS LIKE YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ITS ALL MY FAULT" y/n shouts walking over to the nurse eventually breaking down crying
hysterically on the floor. The nurse came up to her hugging her and she let it all out.
