(y/n is Steve's younger sister this is set after the events of starcourt a week before high school starts)

Y/n got into bed and leant over to her nightstand to turn off her lamp. Minutes past, hours still y/n couldn't sleep after the events of starcourt she was a total mess. El and will had moved away, Dustin and Mike joined  a new party. Y/n felt alone. She misses not having somebody to talk too about her problems and thoughts. Not even Steve was there all the time now with his new job at the family video store.

Y/n looked over to her clock 3:32am suddenly she heard a light thud. Probably just rain she thought. Another thud. She realised that it was coming from her window. Y/n got out of her bed and slowly walked over to the window and opened the curtains. She looked out of the window to see max throwing pebbles. Y/n opened the window.

"Max what are you doing here?" She whisper screamed.

"Come down" max replied.

Y/n threw on a hoodie and some sweats then began climbing out of her window. She climbed from the window ledge onto the garage roof and then climbed down, max helping her on the last part.

"Max what are you doing here it's 3am" she says with worry.

"I couldn't sleep and just wondered if you wanted to hang out, i really needed to talk to someone."Max explains.

"Oh okay should we go to the usual spot?" Y/n asks.

"Yeah, oh do you mind if I leave my skateboard here?" Max asks

"Oh uh yeah sure" y/n replies.

Max and y/n walk to the junkyard and sit on top of the bus, helping each other get up.

"So why did you want to meet, why now?" Y/n asks

"Look I know it's late but I just couldn't sleep, I couldn't stop thinking about well just everything. Ever since that day it's been a bit of a blur. I just really needed someone to talk to and just be around." Max says.

"The truth is.. I can't sleep either. I cant stop thinking about you and what happened. We haven't really spoke much since it happened I think we all just need time to process it. " y/n said

"We don't even need to talk I just wanted to be with someone, someone I care about" max says smiling. Y/n scoots closer to max and puts her head on her shoulder shivering. Max looks at her realising she didn't bring a jacket or anything and takes off her denim jacket.

"Hey uh use this" max says handing over the jacket and putting it around y/n. They gave each other a warm smile and sat there until dawn approached. They didn't speak much, just enjoying each others comfort and company. Max looks at her yellow watch 5:43am by now y/n had fallen asleep on Max's shoulder bundled up in Max's jacket. Max just enjoyed being with y/n just her pure presence. 6:35am had approached max nudged y/n awake and walked her back to her house talking about their high school expectations. Finally they got back to y/n's the house was still asleep, Steve's car was still there it's like nothing ever happened. Max hugged y/n goodbye embracing the hug.

"Hey I forgot to ask you something" y/n says.

"What is it?" Max asks.

"It's the pebble you threw at my window, do you still have it?" Y/n questions.

"Yeah why?" Max replies.

"I want to keep it to remind me of you"
y/n smiles. Max laughs a little then reaches into the pocket of her denim jacket and gives her the pebble. Y/n smiles at the sight of it.

"Thank you max" y/n says after giving her one final hug. Max then boosts y/n back onto the garage roof and she climbs up to her bedroom window waving goodbye as she opens it. Max waits for y/n to close it to make sure she gets to her room safe then grabs her skateboard and walks out the gate quietly shutting it making sure not to wake anyone. The red head skates home not being able to contain her smile at the thought of y/n.
