~the battle of starcourt~

(You are Steve Harringtons younger sister, this takes place at the beginning of s3 e8 the battle of starcourt)

All the group is gathered in starcourt mall. Everyone is trying to come up with a plan to shut the gate before the mind flayer gets el. Will is talking to his mom, Murray is talking to Nancy and Johnathan about which key goes in which lock, Steve, Robin,Dustin and Erica are all about to leaves but before Steve does he runs over to y/n and pulls her aside.

"Hey it's going to be okay, I will be back as soon as I can" Steve says calmly.

"Yeah... I know I'm... just scared" y/n replies

"Just stay safe okay everything's going to be fine" Steve reassures pulling y/n into a hug. He walks away shooting a sympathetic smile and giving a small wave. Max walks over to y/n giving hopper and el some space to talk. She slouches down next to y/n who's holding her knees to her chest with a worried look on her face. Max copies her and places her head on her shoulder.

"It's going to be okay you know" max says.

"Yeah" y/n replies. Mike walks over to the two girls momentarily joining them in their silence before asking them to follow him. The trio walks over to el and tells her it's time to to. El gives her dad one final hug before Mike and max help carry el. Nancy, Johnathan, Lucas and Will join the others heading towards Nancy's car. As they leave the mall el groans out in pain from her leg wound as y/n, max and Mike help her into the back of the car. Once everyone's seated on the car Nancy tries to turn on the exhaust. The car stutters causing the group to panic.

"Didn't your mom just buy this car?" Lucas asks.

"Yes I'm sure it's fine" Nancy replies frustrated.

"Did you leave the lights on?" Will asks trying to find the problem.

"No" Nancy says bluntly.

"Do we have gas?" Lucas suggests.

"YES" Nancy shouts shoving the key into the car as hard as possible yelling in frustration.

"Stop..pop the hood" Johnathan says.

"What the hell... the ignition cables gone" Johnathan says before turning at the sound of Billy's car roaring in the distance .Billy sits there in his car, his eyes bloodshot reving the engine. Nancy runs to the back getting the kids out and leading them back into the mall. Y/n and Mike grab el and try running as fast as possible trying to put as much as els weight on them as they can. Inside the mall Mike is trying to call scoops troop for help, Lucas is loading his slingshot and Nancy is looking for weapons amongst the dead Russians.

"Your gonna kill him... aren't you" max asks.

"This is just a precaution" Nancy replies. Y/n turns to max and grabs her hand.

"Hey it's going to be fine once they close the gate Billy will be normal again" y/n reassures max.

"Besides we're not just against Billy if he knows we're here so does the mind flayer" Willl adds. Nancy looks over to the flipped over car.

"No chance they thing will drive" Nancy jokes.

"We don't need it to drive.. we just need the ignition cable" Johnathan answers shooting a hopeful look to Nancy. The group all tries pushing the car but has no luck. El suggest she could try but is too weak to flip it. The group uses physics to flip the car and Johnathan grabs the cable. Max, y/n and Mike question el who is digging through the garbage with a confused look. They trio walks over to el before max looks up to see the mind flayer on the roof. She freezes in fear before y/n grabs her hand and runs to hide behind a counter. The mind flayer crashes through the roof shattering glass everywhere and letting out an ear piercing roar. Dustin's voice can be heard through the walkie before the monster picks it up and breaks it. The mind flayer gets closer as the group hides. Max and y/n squash up against each other practically being able to feel each other's heartbeats, Mike and el doing the same next to them. While the creatures turned away Mike suggests they should run up the stairs and escape.

"No way not with els leg" max reminds Mike.

"There's another way.. through the gap" y/n states. They all agree to her plan and sprint towards the shop treading lightly over the broken glass. El trips over a hanger causing her to reveal her location to the monster. His slimy tentacle explores the store hunting for his prey. He throws a mannequin and it lands right in front of the teens causing them to panic. As the tentacle gets closer and closer to them max squeezes y/n's hand and looks down trying not to make eye contact with the hunter. Y/n turns her head away shielding her from seeing her friends get attacked by the creature. Before it can reach them Lucas shoots a balloon with his slingshot causing the creature to focus his attention onto the other side of the mall. The teens use this opportunity to run out of the mall. Billy floors it towards the others that made it out of the mall while Nancy shoots at him before Steve and Robin crash into Billy causing him to pass out in the flames. They lure the creature out and make it follow the group in the car away from el, max, Mike and
y/n. Billy stumbles out of the car amongst the flames as he sees y/n, Mike and max carry el through the gate. As soon as they see him they sprint back into the mall, max running to close the gate but Billy gets there before it fully shuts. The 4 get to the elevator and frantically push the button. Max leaves the group and sees Billy chasing them, she walks closer to him trying to get him to come out of his trance.

"Billy" max trembled.

"Billy you don't have to do this.... Billy your name is Billy... Billy Hargrove you live on 4819 cherry lane Billy I'm max I'm your sist-" max gets snacked across the face casing her to pass out.

"MAX!" Y/n shouts running towards her. She runs into Billy trying to punch him but he picks her up by the throat chocking her momentarily before throwing her into a glass display wall. Suddenly everything does dark. Mike and max wake up to the sound of fireworks being thrown at the creature before kneeling down towards
Y/n laying in a pool of her own blood.

"Hey y/n come on wake up.. it's me max CAN YOU HEAR ME?" max yelled, shaking y/n awake. She finally woke up confused, her head pounding and her stomach weeping blood.

"What's going on?" Y/n asks concerned.

"It's okay we're gonna get you some help" max reassures trying to get y/n to sit up.

"Where's el" Mike asks looking around. Both teens try to help y/n up but she screams out in pain. Max rips the bottom of her shirt and tells y/n to bite down on it while they get her up. As she gets up Mike sees the large shards of glass piercing her skin. Once they get her up y/n spits out the fabric and hobbles along with the help of max and Mike towards the booming sound of fireworks. They get to the main part of the mall and see Billy protecting el from the mind flayer. Max let's go of y/n frozen in shock as her brother get brutally killed in front of her.

"BILLY!" Max screamed, tears streaming down her wounded face mixing with the blood from her nose. Billy's heart gets ripped out of his chest before he falls to the ground. As soon as the mind flayer dies Mike let's go of y/n and runs over to el checking to see if she's okay. Max kneels down beside Billy covering him with her tears.

"Billy please come on Billy please" max weeps.

"I'm sorry" Billy mutters before taking his last breathe, drowning in his own blood.

"Billy wake up Billy get up.... Billy!" Max cried out. Y/n stumbles over to max kneeling down next to her before pulling her into a hug. Max sobs in her arms as
y/n strokes her hair crying with her. Helicopters land next to starcourt and swat enter the Russian base killing all the soldiers in sight, others enter the mall ushering the kids all outside. Fire trucks and ambulances all arrive y/n finally getting the glass pulled out of her and bandages up to stop the bleeding. She sees Steve come out of the mall and immediately runs over to him hugging him tightly, crying in his grasp trying to ignore the pain from her stomach. Max looks over and watches the two siblings hug before facing away, not being able to deal with Billy's loss. Steve sits with Robin, max and y/n in the back of the ambulance in silence not being able to process what just happened. Y/n looks at Max's tear stained face and grabs her hand playing with her fingers. Y/n looks around to see el searching for her dad only to be met with the news of his death. No one came to pick up Steve, y/n or max so max stayed the night. They didn't speak, they just cuddled. Max couldn't sleep all she could think about was Billy. How was she going to tell Neil and her mom? Could she go home? What now? She wanted Billy out of her life so bad but now he's gone she feels lost, worthless, guilty.
