We headed to Herbeology. The greenhouses were outside, left of the castle. Professor Sprout was waiting for us. She was still wearing that patchy hat and had loads of earth were in her fingernails.
"Alrighty, let's head to Greenhouse 1 today!" She says, leading us to the first house. "Find a pot with three other people and stand there, please!" She shouts. A lot of scuffling and then Remus and Sirius are with me.
"Alright everyone good?" Sprout asks. Lily does not have a pot with anyone else. Sprout sees this. "Ms. Evans, would you kindly join Mr. Potter, Mr. Black and Mr. Lupin please?" Lily groans and heads towards us.
She stands next t to Remus and taps her fingers. "Alright, we are studying the Devil's Snare plant. Can anyone tell me what it does?" Professor Sprout looks around. Remus's hand shoots in the air. "Yes, Mr. Lupin?"
"The devil's snare traps you when you land on its soft leaves, and if you move you get deeply stuck." He recites.
"Good, ten points to Gryffindor. Can anyone else tell me what drives the plant away?" Professor looks around again. Lilly's hand shoots in the air.
"Yes, Ms. Evans?" I exchange a look with Sirius. He smirks. Before Lily opens her mouth, a loud clatter comes from the other side of the room. A girl with a round face who is from Gryffindor drops a big pot. I realize that her name is Alice.
"Careful Ms. Prewitt!" Professor Sprout scolds. She helps her clean up. When she is done she is evidently frustrated.
"Get to work trying to figure out what drives the Devils Snare away!" She says roughly. Sirius and I try hex get the plant, which only angers it. I try a bubble charm on it but that only makes it swell. "No wands please, Potter and Black!" Sprout yells at us. Lily snorts and Remus gives us an apologetic look.
"I'd like to see you do better Evans!" Sirius snaps. Lily throws him a look of pure hatred. She treads my foot as she steps up to him.
"If you happened to pay attention, I knew the answer on how to drive the plant away! Maybe Muggle borns are smarter than you Pure Bloods." She put her green eyes right up to his black ones. He was breathing hard just like her. Just then, class ended. I dragged him out of their to Transfiguration, where Lily couldn't follow us, as she now had History of Magic. We walked in and took seats in the middle of the class room.
Professor Mcgonagall looked at all of us. "Well, you lot are first years, correct? We will start with basic spells for your first two years here at Hogwarts than you will do more complex spells from your third year to your fourth year. Fifth year is OWLS so you will do very advanced spells that year to the end of your time at Hogwarts. Understood?" The class nodded and Mcgonagall tapped the blackboard. "Today, you will attempt to change a rat to a button. It is quite simple. Flick your wand to left and say encanhia! Begin."
I actually got the spell right on my first attempt. I managed to transfigure seven rats to buttons by the end of the lesson. Eventually, Professor Mcgonagall just told me to spend the rest of the period reading.
So, I read Armondo Dippet's guide to Transfiguration for thirty minutes. Sirius managed to transfigure five rats. As the class ended, we were assigned to write a paragraph about the simple spell.
We headed to double Charms. Professor Flitwick was standing on a stool when we came in. Remus rejoined us from his Divination class. He opened his mouth but then shut it. Just then, the potions master, Professor Slughorn walked in, panting.
"Professor, we need you in the forbidden forest. It's urgent!" Slughorn said. Flitwick looked frantic.
"Class dismissed!" He squeaked. "Please go, you have a free period!" The class did not dare cheer until they were a corridor away. A few Ravenclaws were clapping.
"What'd you reckon happened?" I turn to Sirius and Remus. Sirius shrugs. Remus looks puzzled and then looks as if he has remembered something.
"That Divination teacher, she is an old fraud. She said that half of us were going to die and then she said I would drown in a toilet the next time I went to the bathroom." Remus looked angry.
I wave a hand dismissively. "You want to have a look around the forest guys?" I ask. Sirius nods but Lupin is disapproving.
"How are we not going to be noticed, eh?" He asks. I'm crestfallen I'd never realized that would be another obstacle. Sirius perks up though.
"This is almost too perfect! We can use the cloak to get around no one will see us," he goes on excitedly, ignoring lupin's skeptical face.
I nod and run to Gryffindor Tower. The portrait, a fat lady, says,"Password?" I rack my brain, trying to remember. "Banshee!" I shout. I knock over a second year mousy haired girl in a desperate effort to get to the dorm. As I push the door open, I hear a gasp.
I see Peter standing over a stunned Frank. "James, I was talking to him and he keeled over because the door opened and something left but I couldn't see it. I reach in my bag desperately for the cloak, but it is not there.
"Peter, my cloak is gone!" I scream. Peter looks horrified. Did the mysterious person take it? Sirius and Remus bound in.
"What's the holdup?" Sirius calls, smiling. But his smile fades when he sees Franks body on the floor. "Where is the cloak James?" He asks.
I shake my head. Their is a haste as the four of us look for it. I throw my contents over the floor, spilling ink on the carpet and books pour into my bed. Peter is throwing his stuff all over too and Sirius desperately searching every corner of the room.
The dormitory door burst open. None other than Lily Evans walks in, crying. "I'm sorry James! I heard you guys talking about the cloak with Severus and I let him in the common room earlier and he must have taken the cloak and run! I'm so sorry!" Sirius gives her a disgusted look.
"I've never been more disgusted by anyone in Slytherin, Evans." He says, leaving the tower.
