Had she?
No. That wasn't it.
The grogginess went away after a moment, and Celia remembered it all. The house. It was gone. All of it. The last physical reminder she had of her childhood was gone, and it was her aunt and uncle who were responsible for it. Celia threw her legs over the edge of the bed and stepped onto the cool linoleum floors. She pushed open the door and stepped into the hallway. She needed to find her brother. He must have been around here somewhere because they'd both been taken from the burning house. They told her that he was okay.
"Ms. Clairmont, I'm afraid you're going to have to go back to bed," one of the nurses called out to her, but she shook her head. She felt fine. "Where is my brother, Sebastian Clairmont?"
"Your brother's fine, Ms. Clairmont, but I'm going to need you to relax. Your body's been through a great deal of trauma. You need time to rest."
"Let me see her!" Celia perked up at the voice. She knew that voice. She spun around, seeing her brother trying to come out of his hospital room while a doctor tried to calm him down. She ignored the nurse calling out to her and crossed the hallway, where her brother paused mid-sentence when he saw her. "Cece!" He exclaimed, letting out a sigh of relief. He wrapped his arms around his sister and squeezed her so tight it felt like she couldn't breathe. She hugged him back and took a look at him. Apart from some soot on his face, he looked fine. He didn't look hurt. The thought made Celia feel immensely better.
"Seb! You're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay," he assured her. "You remember-?" Celia nodded her head, not wanting to think about it a second longer. She remembered what happened before she passed out, something to do with smoke inhalation, the doctor's had told her. She was still reeling from her family's betrayal, but she couldn't think about it right now. She and her brother were okay, and that was enough for now. "They got them, Cece. They won't hurt us anymore."
"And Nate?" Celia asked hopefully. They both expectantly turned to the doctor, who glanced between them. "Well, that's why we were coming to find you both. Your cousin's woken up. We still have to conduct preliminary tests to make sure-" Celia didn't care what the doctor had to say, because she took off down the hallway until she was standing in front of Nate's door. She pushed it open, to see a nurse shining a light in his eyes, and asking him to wiggle his fingers and toes.
When he noticed Celia standing in the doorway of his room, he frowned. "Who are you?"
Her stomach dropped.
He hadn't remembered who she was.
She was about to start crying when he cracked a smile, and let out a breathy laugh. "Oh my god, I got you good there, didn't I, Cece?" He started laughing then, and Celia hit his leg, trying to be angry with him, but she couldn't. "That's not funny, asshole," she choked out, wiping her tears. "I thought you weren't gonna wake up."
"Don't be silly, Cece. You know I'd stick around to haunt you and Seb," he assured her. She was too happy to see him awake and well to comment on that. She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him tightly. This whole time he'd been asleep, so much had happened, and Celia didn't want to have to be the one to break it to him. His parents were in prison after they tried to kill Celia and her brother. "Wait," he stopped, and his face suddenly grew serious. "Why are you in a hospital gown? What happened to you?"
