𝐁𝐘 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐋𝐄, 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 get the strange text message from last night out of her head. She'd phoned the police to report the incident, feeling highly unsettled because of it, but they were no help. They told Celia to block the number, and consider changing her phone number or getting a new phone. The detective told her that prank calls were normal, and she shouldn't worry about her safety when there was no real threat. It was only a silly text message, but Celia felt that there was more to the story. Sure, she could phone up her friend in the FBI and ask for help, but it seemed like a waste of his time and resources. Spencer would have been glad to help her if she asked, but Celia was embarrassed to bring it up. The police officers already thought she was being crazy and paranoid, and maybe they were right.
"You're Celia Clairmont, right?" She glanced over at the other person accompanying her in the elevator, seeing a boy who looked around her age staring at her with a furrowed brow. Celia nodded, "I am. Have we met?"
"No, we haven't," he replied. "I'm Grant, one of the new interns." The name rung a bell to Celia, and as recognition dawned over her, she smiled and extended her hand out for him to shake. He looked older than some of the other interns they brought in, since most of them were either fresh out of high school or still in college. "It's nice to meet you, Grant. Is today your first day?" She needed to look at her calendar because if she recalled correctly, she thought the interns didn't start until next week. She had only assigned the eight interns to shadow her current employees a few days ago.
"Oh, no," he told her with a chuckle. "I'm here because I forgot to sign one of the forms when I came in for my interview. Do you know where I can find Margot Greene? The woman on the phone said she'd help me."
"I can take you to her," Celia declared. "She's right this way," Celia pointed down the long hallway and Grant followed closely behind her.
"Can I just say that I absolutely loved the pieces you designed for fashion week last year," he gushed, following beside her and matching Celia's brisk pace. "I've been following your career since, well... forever, and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to be working alongside you."
"Thanks," Celia replied, taking the compliment. "Do you live in the area?" Celia was surprisingly terrible at small talk, and she hoped it wasn't obvious in her attempt to fill the silence between them. She made an effort to get to know everyone she worked with, even if only for a short period of time.
"I actually just moved here recently," he admitted with a sheepish smile. "I was living with my mother when I applied because I didn't think I'd even get a call back, honestly."
"Well, seems like you did," Celia replied with a grin. "And here you are." She gestured to him, dressed in a sharp grey suit that made the blue in his eyes pop. "Here I am," he repeated, cracking a small smile.
They turned the corner to where Margot's office was, and Celia knocked twice before she pushed open the door and stepped inside. The office was part of Margot's promotion, but she occasionally manned the front desk outside even though she didn't have to. Margot was too stubborn to train someone else to take over her old job because deep down she knew that no amount of training would ever shape someone to be able to do what she did. She had a system that worked, and she wasn't going to let someone else completely scrap it, even if Celia had insisted that it was no longer part of her job title.
"Morning," Margot beamed brightly, pushing her glasses up on to her forehead. She stood from her chair and walked over, adjusting the black pencil skirt she had on as she approached the two of them. "You must be Grant Blakely, I presume?" Grant nodded and extended a hand out to give Margot a handshake. "I have those papers you have to sign, and then you can be on your way. I won't keep you too long." She waltzed over to her desk and grabbed a stack of papers from the filing cabinet and prompted Grant to sit down, instructing him to sign anywhere there was tabs.
