She opened one eye and glanced at her phone on the nightstand, blindly reaching to grab the thing and swiping to answer the call, holding it up to her ear. "Hello?" She croaked out. For a moment, she didn't hear anything, and she pulled the phone back to see who was calling, which didn't occur to her in her post-sleep haze.
Unknown Caller.
Celia's heart dropped. "Rebecca is that you?" She whispered, carefully removing Spencer's hand from around her waist. For a moment, she wondered if the was insane, and if the person on the other line was ever going to say something at all. Then, when she was about to hang up she heard a sinister chuckle, followed by a, "Well, you're a smart one, aren't you?" Celia reached out and shook Spencer awake quickly, and when his eyes flew open, Celia held a finger to her mouth, shushing him before he could say anything. "Don't bother," she warned.
"Don't bother what?"
"Don't bother asking your boyfriend to track our call," she advised, sounding rather bored. "Do you honestly think I'd be stupid enough to risk getting caught?" She glanced over at Spencer, who mouthed the words Is it her? and Celia nodded. He carefully stepped out of the room, already on the phone with who she presumed to be Penelope. Maybe Rebecca wasn't as smart as she thought she was. If anyone would find her, it would be Penelope Garcia. "Every move I make is intentional, you should know that by now."
"So your plan imploding was intentional?" She heard a sharp intake of breath on the other line, followed by an unsettling silence. "Not intentional," she reluctantly admitted through gritted teeth. "We'll call it a... hiccup. I'll have to be more careful next time. You might not be so lucky. Or Margot," Celia gripped the phone tighter, trying to stop the shaking of her hand. She was doing a good job at seeming at ease, but every hair on her neck was stood up, and her spine was as straight as a poker. "You should be thanking me for sparing her. She's lucky that my issue lies with your family and not her. Though, I do feel sorry for her," Rebecca tutted. "She doesn't know what she's getting into with you Clairmont's, does she?"
"Surely you didn't call to talk to me about Margot?" Celia rolled her eyes. Rebecca had a flair for the dramatic, and quite frankly, Celia was tired of it. She could play the martyr all she wanted, but it didn't change the past, and she'd never move past it. She held a grudge because the person she really wanted to kill was no longer alive, and Celia and her family were the ones who'd gotten caught in the crossfire.
"I got a bit sidetracked, didn't I?" She chuckled, her voice entirely void of emotion. "Consider this phone call a warning, Celia. That things are far from over," the implication of her words was enough to send a chill down her spine. "You haven't seen the last of me."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because the three of you don't deserve to feel comfortable," she hissed. "Whenever you feel happy, I want you to remember that I'm right there, Celia. As long as I'm here, you will never know peace. I'm incredibly patient, I can wait for as long as I have to. But you? You'll spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder until I decide to come and put you out of your misery."
"Looking forward to it," she drawled. "And Rebecca?"
"What?"
"I wish things were different," Celia admitted, meaning every single word. As much as she wanted to hate Rebecca, she couldn't. Celia would never turn to murder, but she understood why Rebecca thought she was doing right by her family. She was a hurt little girl trying to soothe the pain of losing everyone she'd ever loved. "I always wanted another girl in the family." There was a sharp intake of breath on the other line, followed by silence, and then Celia hung up before she could hear her response.
