The morning after was quite awkward. Tÿlana did not want to approach Lo'ak, nor did she know how to. Realistically, how do you approach someone after that kind of encounter? She was very confused. He made no sense to her. He'd look at her like he was ready to mate right there and then, but then he looked like he wanted to strangle her in the water yesterday. She took it as her sign to let him cool off for the day. Or she wanted to at least, Tsireya had other plans obviously.
" Do you know what I think would be a good idea?" Tsireya asked her older sister, falling into step with her.
Tÿlana closed her eyes, throwing her head back with a groan. She had left the pod early to avoid seeing her sister. " Please enlighten me, Reya."
" Well, Tÿa, I think you should do the shell game with Lo'ak today."
With those simple words, Tÿlana's head shot over to her little sister in astonishment. " Were you not listening to anything I told you last night?"
" I was, but! I think it'd be good. Kind of like a rekindling moment for you guys." Tsireya told her with a wide smile on her face. The smile slightly wavered once she saw Tÿlana's unimpressed face. She quickly wiped the expression off, shaking her head. " No! No, you need to do this, please."
" Why do I need to do it? Why can't Ao'nung or you?" Tÿlana rebutted in defense.
Tsireya rolled her eyes, " Do you really want Ao to go anywhere near Lo'ak?"
That shut Tÿlana up pretty quickly. Tsireya smiled in triumph. She knew she made a point, even though she also knew it annoyed her older sister to no end. But hey, when you're right, you're right.
" Hold on, why not you?" Tÿlana stopped walking for a moment and turned to her sister.
" Ew boys. I might get a disease or something." Tsireya tried to say seriously but her tone really threw it all off.
" Do not act like you aren't completely in love with Tevu." Tÿlana smirked down at her. She saw the glare she was receiving from Tsireya and chuckled. " Must suck being so down bad."
" Tÿa!" Tsireya slapped her arm gently with a joking look on her face but the small blush on her face told Tÿlana all she needed to know.
" It's okay, little sister. I'm sure he'll be able to handle your temper." Tÿlana teased, nudging her sister in the arm. They began walking toward the food hut again making light chatter.
The relationship between the two sisters was something many people in the village admired, especially the ones with siblings. The sisters and brother were all so close and very good friends despite their occasional arguments and feuds. It was the same thing with Rotxo. His parents belonged with Eywa now so he lived with his grandmother and his little brother, Kelox. He was the sweetest little boy and loved being around Tÿlana. Rotxo would often tease his little brother that Tÿlana was his everlasting crush. Rotxo would receive a weak punch to the arm and many insults. It was still funny though whenever it happened.
" Tÿa! Kelox has something to give you!" Rotxo yelled as he ran up to the sisters with his little brother running behind him, yelling at him to shut up.
Tÿlana smiled already. It took the smallest encounter with the brothers to put a giant smile on her face. " Hi Kelo."
" Hi Tÿa." Kelox smiled bashfully.
She kneeled down to his height with a bright glint in her eyes. She truly loved the children of the clan. They brought her never ending joy. He grabbed something from Rotxo's hand and held it out. A gorgeous blue shell was in his hand. He knew how much his crush loved shells and how she collected them to make clothing articles or head pieces.
" I got this for you this morning. Rotxo took me on a swim and I found it. I thought you'd like it." He mumbled quietly, almost embarrassed it seemed. He looked up and saw no smile on Tÿlana's face. He quickly got defensive. " If you do not want it, it's fine. I just thought you may want a new shell for your Tsahík head piece-"
" Kelo," Tÿlana stopped the boy with a chuckle. He looked at her with his big wide eyes full of sadness. She grabbed the shell gently and held it in her hands. " I love it so much. Thank you."
The boy's eyes lit up quickly and his ears perked up. Rotxo, who was behind his brother, watched as his tail swayed slightly. He grinned a bit. His brother was in deep for a girl ten years older than him.
" Cool... Bye Tÿa!" He ran off after that with a small giggle.
Tÿlana stood now and smiled at Rotxo. " Your little brother has my heart I think."
" Shut up."
Tsireya and Tÿlana both laughed at him while he rolled his eyes.
Lo'ak was sitting with his family inside the food hut. He saw the whole encounter with the girl and her family. He was currently hearing the little boy brag to his friends about how much she loved the shell he got for her. Lo'ak rolled his eyes. He could go fetch shells for her, it wasn't that big of a deal.
" Come on. I'm hungry." Rotxo urged the two girls into the dining hut. They all went to the table where Tÿlana and Tsireya's family sat.
Their parents were sitting there already with Ao'nung. The three of them sat down and made sure to leave a couple extra spaces in case Rotxo's family decided to join them at some point. It wasn't very often when they would, and Rotxo didn't have a huge family anyways so it all worked out. Tonowari and Ronal both considered Rotxo and his family to be their family since they had no other relatives. Tÿlana and her siblings grew up without grandparents on both sides. Tonowari's parents had both died in a battle long before any of the next generation was born. Ronal came from a different island when her and Tonowari's parents wanted to truce. Her and Tonowari fell in love and here they were.
" Are you alive or do you enjoy staring into empty space?" Ao'nung nudged his sister lightly with a small playful look on his face.
Tÿlana snapped out of the trance she was in to look over at him. " Sorry."
" Maite, why are you in your head so much?" Ronal wondered as she ate. Her daughter looked over at her and shrugged lightly. " Mhm.."
" You thinking about Lo'ak, huh?" Rotxo whispered in her ear. Her head turned towards him with wide eyes. On her right side Ao'nung was next to her and on the left was Rotxo. Tsireya was next to Ao'nung on his other side.
She saw the smirk on his face and immediately wanted to wipe it off. She quickly punched him in the ribs with a glare on her face.
" Rotxo shut up. Now." She hissed at him. " I do not even like him like that. Plus, I think he is quite mad at me right now."
" What did you do?" Rotxo mumbled, confusion written all over his face. At this point Ao'nung was in on the conversation as well.
" First, I'm offended that you think I did something. Second, we got into an argument when I showed him something. He got defensive about them being new and his...situation..?" Tÿlana didn't know how to phrase the last sentence. Was it a situation? He had five fingers and some demon blood, so what? It wasn't as big of a deal as her mother made it to be, but she did understand they must feel horrible about it.
Although, she did feel bad for the family and she wished that sooner then later they would feel at home here. She also wished that they would come to learn that the ocean can be their home.
