12:00 am.
Haein was alone at home again. Chan was stuck in his studio due to some work. He told her beforehand. Haein didn't mind as it was pretty common now. She wasn't feeling sleepy so she was watching TV.
That's when she heard the doorbell ring. She felt strange. No one could be there at this hour apart from Chan. But he wouldn't need to ring the bell. He already knew the password. She turned the TV off. With the strange feeling in her gut, Haein went to the door.
She checked the security camera monitor to see who was outside. She saw a person wearing a ball cap and mask, standing with their head lowered.
"Who is it?" she asked.
"There's a parcel for Mr. Bang," a male voice replied. It confused her. There shouldn't be a delivery for Chan at this hour. Chan never told her about anything like that.
"I'm sorry but I don't remember him ordering anything," Haein replied.
"Please just open the door and I'll tell you," the man spoke again. It scared Haein for some reason.
Haein quickly ran inside the house straight to her room and grabbed her phone. She immediately dialed Chan's number.
...
Chan was busy working in his studio alone. His phone rang. He furrowed his brows when he saw the caller ID.
"Haein?" he answered the phone. "Hello?"
He heard Haein's shaky voice from the other side, "Hello, Chris?"
"Haein, what happened? Why are you calling at such a late hour? Are you okay?"
"I'm not. There's someone at the door with a parcel for you, constantly telling me to open up," she replied with her voice still shaky.
"What? Did you see their face?"
"No, I just heard his voice. His face was all covered. He's still banging on the door. Chris, I'm scared."
Chan immediately stood up from his chair, "Haein, don't panic, okay? I'm coming home right now! Whatever happens, don't open the door."
"Please come home quickly." she spoke from the other line and he hung up. Chan quickly gathered his things and left the building.
...
Haein kept her phone in her hands for safety. The man, not getting any reply from Haein, was ringing the bell and banging on the door continuously. The banging didn't stop even after minutes passed. She went to check the door again. The man was still standing there, telling her to open up. "Go away!" She yelled at the man and ran back inside.
She sat in her room waiting for Chan to arrive. She thought of calling him but since she realized he might be driving, she didn't. The banging noises stopped in a few moments.
Minutes later, she heard a clicking sound coming from the living room. She ran out of her room hoping to see Chan as soon as possible.
"Chris?" She saw Chan get inside the house. Without another word, she ran to him, engulfing him in a tight hug. "Thank goodness you're here! I was so scared," she spoke as she tightly shut her eyes.
Chan also wrapped his arms around her to comfort her, "I'm here now. You're safe."
"Did you see the man?" Haein broke the hug and asked.
"No, there was no one outside. I saw no one in the building at all. Are you sure you saw someone? Maybe your mind was just playing tricks on you?"
"No, I'm definitely sure! There really was a man!"
"Let's go check the CCTV footages. If someone was here then maybe their face was caught on camera," Chan said and she nodded.
They went to the CCTV room with the help of the security guard of the building. The guard played the CCTV footages of that night. Chan also called his manager on FaceTime to show him as well. They saw the footages of 12 am infront of Chan's house but they didn't see any man. Everything looked completely normal.
"There's no man here," the security guard said.
"It can't be... I really did see someone, Chris. I'm not lying," Haein held Chan's hand to make him believe her words.
"Please play the footage again," Chan said to the guard. The guard played it again and Chan closely looked at it. "There! I saw it!"
"What did you see?" Haein asked.
"Look here, the clip between 12:03 and 12:09 is missing," Chan pointed at the timer on the screen. The guard played the footage again. Haein and the guard noticed it too.
"Someone must've messed with the footages," the manager said from the phone.
"But I didn't see anyone suspicious enter the building today either. They must've come from the backdoor of the parking lot. The CCTV there is broken since the past few days," the guard spoke.
"This looks worse than I thought," Chan said.
"W-who could've done this? And why?" Haein asked with a shaky voice.
"It could be a stalker," the manager said. "Or maybe someone did it to scare you, Chan. We should report this to the company immediately. We'll talk about it tomorrow when you come. Stay safe for the night."
"Yes, manager nim. I will," with that Chan hung up the call.
...
Chan returned to his apartment with Haein. Haein was still trying to process everything that had happened. "I don't get it. Why would anyone be stalking you?" Haein asked.
"It could be an obsessive fan. Idols always have stalkers. Many people I know have had the worst experiences with them. Anyways, it's pretty late. You should go to sleep now," Chan said as he closed the door, making sure to lock it properly.
"Hmm..." Haein nodded.
"Don't go to school tomorrow. I'll talk to your teacher. You'll go to the company with me."
"Okay," Haein said obediently without asking another question. Chan turned to go to his room but she called him, "Chris?" He turned his head towards her. "Can you....?" She looked at him with pleading eyes.
Chan understood what she meant, "Okay, I'll stay with you in your room till you fall asleep."
...
Haein layed down on her bed. She held Chan's hand and closed her eyes. Chan just sat beside her gently brushing her hair with his other hand to help her fall asleep. Many worries flooded his head as he stared at her. Her safety scared him more than his. He felt guilty for not being with her when she needed him.
The situation could've gotten much worse that night. The man could've broken into their apartment. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if Haein got harmed in any way. Chan felt like he wasn't fulfilling his responsibilities towards her properly.
Chan yawned feeling sleepy. He looked at the clock. It was 02:00 am. He didn't even realize where time went while he was drowning in his own thoughts. He stopped his train of thoughts. He looked at her and making sure that she was asleep, he pulled his hand away. He kept a pillow beside her to prevent her from falling off the bed.
He quietly stepped away from her bed and exited the room. He looked at her one last time before closing the door. He returned to his room and fell asleep rather quickly than expected probably due to all the tiredness.
