"I'm seeing someone," Chan said with a nervous smile gauging Haein's reaction.

While Haein felt like she was stricken by lightning. As if her stomach was being ripped out.

"You're joking. You're joking, right?" She prayed for this to turn out to be a stupid prank.

"No, I'm serious. I'm actually seeing someone."

Haein paused for a few moments trying to process this heavy information before speaking up again, "Chris, look, I don't think whatever you have with Mingyu counts as a relationship..."

Chan took a deep breath before responding, "It's not about Mingyu. I'm seeing a girl."

"A girl? A real girl?" Haein couldn't believe her eyes or ears. Why was he dating a girl? Why was him dating a girl bothering her so much? "You sure it's not Felix or Lee Know wearing a wig?"

"What? No! Inah, I'm dating a biological woman. I'm not gay, I mean not completely," he looked away before adding the last bit.

Haein's mouth hung open as her eyes narrowed. "Why?"

"Uh... because I just felt like it...?" Chan answered with uncertainty not sure how to answer her question. "I know you're not a huge fan of hetero relationships, due to seeing me and the kids, but I assure you straight relationships aren't that bad either."

"Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Why am I finding out now? You've secretly been dating behind all our backs?"

"Actually..." Chan looked away scratching his nape. "The kids have known all this while."

Haein felt even more offended. "So you hid this just from me?"

"I wasn't sure how you'd react, okay? I wanted to be sure about this relationship myself before telling you. While I was in Australia, I met Mia through a few mutual friends. I'm not sure if you've heard about her but she's an actress and a model. She was on a vacation too. We hung out a little, goofed around here and there. Then we decided to meet back here in Korea. We've been on quite a few dates and we felt like we're ready for something serious," he tried to explain calmly. "I know it sounds boring but I'm a simple guy and I don't understand the dating rules these days. Whatever that talking stage, situationship and other bullshit is. If I like someone, I'll commit to them. That's it. But before taking the big step, I wanted your confirmation."

"My confirmation? Why?" Haein tried to speak though her mouth and throat felt extremely dry.

"Because you're my top priority, silly," Chan chuckled. "Me dating someone is gonna bring a huge change in your life too. I don't want you to be uncomfortable with someone new becoming a part of our big family." He held Haein's hand gently with both his hands to assure her. "I know it's a lot to process right now but all I'm asking for is one chance. Just meet her once. She's a great girl. And it's your choice. If you don't want me to date her, I won't. Would you like to meet her once? Please, Inah? Pretty please?" he said with a pleading tone.

Haein's heart screamed at her to say no, to tell him she wasn't happy with him dating another woman. Yet all she could do was force a smile and nod. After all, she would never get in the way of his happiness. Seeing her nod, Chan instantly wrapped his arms around her grinning big.

"Thank you so much, Inah. You're literally the best," he said while gently rocking her from side to side in the hug. He pulled away still holding her by her shoulders. "I invited her over for dinner tonight. I hope that's okay. I just can't wait for you guys to meet. You're gonna love her."

It all made sense now. That's why Chan was up early in the morning putting up those pictures. That's why the house was so well organised today. Because his girlfriend was coming over for dinner. Haein could only respond with a nod, afraid that if she opened her mouth, she might cry.
