Chapter 17 : Chan's birthday

The month of October was finally there. And one special thing about October, was Chan's birthday. Many people, especially his fans were excited about it. Haein knew about the occasion too.

She really wanted to do something special for him on the day. She wanted to buy him a gift. But she couldn't possibly figure out what she could give a man who already had everything. So she decided to do something within her limits.

The morning of his birthday was just like any other. Chan made their breakfast and had it with Haein. Chan wasn't someone who was very fond of his birthday. So he didn't mention it infront of her. Haein on the other hand, didn't mention it either as she wanted to surprise him. The two left for their work and school respectively.

Haein started preparing her surprise as soon as she came home that day. But before that she made sure to finish her chores and studies. She was excited and couldn't wait to get to show her surprise to him. She started baking a little cake. Haein loved baking. It had been a long time since she cooked anything special. Still she managed to make it properly. She made a little chocolate cake and decorated it with chocolate glaze and sprinkles. She had to buy some of the ingredients herself while on her way to home from school because Chan didn't have them at home as he wasn't a baking person. It was almost evening when she finally finished. Haein looked at the clock. She was getting more and more excited as the time passed.

Haein sat down on the couch of the living room. She tried to pass her time watching her phone and TV. She still kept glancing at the time. It was past 9 pm. Chan was being late, again.

The day was hectic for Chan. The man didn't get any rest even on his 26th birthday. In fact, his birthday made him busier. The company employees, his members, idols and trainees wished him a happy birthday. But he wasn't really having one. He was drowning in work. Stray kids just had a comeback and they were busy with their promotions. He had to do a birthday special Chan's room as well. Don't get him wrong, he did love doing Chan's room and spending time with Stays but sometimes it would just get exhausting. And since he wasn't really a fan of his own birthday, he kinda disliked the idea of celebrating it. But he had to, for the sake of Stays. He greeted them with a smile. He cut the cake that the staff had prepared for him. It was a Wolfchan cake, custom made for him.

"Thank you, Stays. Thank you, babystays. And I'll see you guys next time. Bye bye!" he finished by clicking his tongue twice as he made a peace sign infront of the camera. And with that he turned it off. He sighed as soon as he did. He was exhausted. He couldn't wait to go home and lay down on his bed.

It was 11:00 pm when Chan finally returned home. Chan got in quietly. His eyes fell on the couch as soon as he came in. He saw Haein sleeping on the couch. He was confused to see her sleeping there. He took off his shoes and put on his slippers. He stood infront of the couch. He bent down and shook her shoulder to wake her up.

"Haein..." he softly called her. She immediately woke up and stood up seeing him. Chan took a few steps back. "Why are you sleeping here?"

"I was waiting for you..." Haein answered with her gaze on him.

"Why were you waiting for me?" his tone had a hint of annoyance. Haein didn't answer him. She just secretly looked at the dining table, where her then cold cake was kept covered. She then shifted her eyes to his feet. "Did you have your dinner?" Chan asked again.

"No..." she answered with her voice lowered.

"Why didn't you eat? I told you to never wait for me at night. Just eat and go to sleep. You have school tomorrow too," his voice came out harsher than he intended.

"I'm sorry. I won't do it again," she bit her lip to stop herself from crying. It wasn't something to cry about but Chan was always a calm person and him behaving like that scared her.
