It was now half past one and Brittney had gone home. I decided to start my art project which was due in on Monday. My mum peeked her head around the bedroom door, "Watcha doing?"
"I'm doing my art project. We have to create something that shows our personality and who we are. But I don't have any craft things to make my project because I want to make a 3D sculpture."
"We can go to the art shop if you want? I'll take you in around ten minutes. I just need to reply to this email I got. Tomorrow there is this lovely, young lady training to be a nurse. I've volunteered to show her around the hospital tomorrow." Said Mum.
"Okay thank you. I'll put my shoes on in a minute but I thought me and you were going to spend the day together. We never spend time together any more. Once again I'll be home alone."
"I'm sorry love. It's what I do to put food on the table and have a home."
I sighed and gave my mum a hug.
I was now walking down the cobbled path in my garden towards the gate with my mum behind, locking the door.
"So, Indigo what are you thinking for your sculpture?"
"I have an idea in mind. But it's a surprise, Mum." I squeezed Mum's hand.
"Choose some card, glitter, tissue paper and if you need anything else for the project I don't mind."Mum softly said as we entered the shop.
I picked out some pink and purple card, blue glitter, some air dry clay, green tissue paper and some craft wire. My mum picked up some beautiful brush pens.
"What are those for mum?" I questioned.
"It's Brittney's birthday tomorrow. On the 9th of May. It would be rude not to get her anything. If you have some spare card left why don't you make her a card; you're very creative Indigo. I'm sure she'd love it!"
"Okay I will."
"Oh. I was expecting a stomp and a no. I thought that's what teenagers do these days." Mum started laughing.
"Well me and Brittney have sorted out things between us both. So you don't have anything to worry about. I would love to make her a card."
"That's good to here. Just wait by the notebook section while I get out my bank card."
"Okay mum." I said as I got distracted from the pretty designs and textures on the notebooks. Maybe it wasn't the best idea for me to wait near the notebooks.
"Mum look at this notebook with all the fancy gold edges!"
"That's nice love, but put it back. I don't have that sort of money," Mum walked up to me, "I promise Indigo. When I get that job at your school of being a school nurse I will be able to afford things like that." Mum whispered.
"Actually mum. I'll save up for it instead and I'll come here on a shopping trip with Brittney maybe. It's nice having a friend who's a girl." I sighed with a polite smile.
"Okay sweetie. Let's go to the till to pay."
A rather round lady started scanning the items with greasy hair and a squashed nose.
"Cash or card hun?" The woman gave a quiet grunt.
"Uhh card please. Do you mind if I use this coupon?"
"Where is it from?" The woman question who had a badge saying Cathy on it.
"I umm, get coupons from where I work so I can save some money."
"Oh. Your one of those lot aren't ya. What else do you have? Don't tell me your gonna pull out one of those cards that people who work add taxes to, like me!"
